Does that answer your question?

Yep. Thanks. Perhaps introducing your work as such from the start would have made it less arguable, left alone selling it. But hell, who am I to tell you what to do? In any case, I hope you'll succeed at mastering the tool and expressing what you have in mind.

Eucaryote: We all have our favorites. I understand your criticism, seeing as I am my own worst critic. smile

Well, you seem like a really nice guy and reading my message again, I feel bad for getting my teeth out so quick. See, much of today's music is so lazy in the making compared to the efforts that go towards self-promotion, I can't help but turn red.

I didn't mean to establish a final judgement on what you do. I'm just puzzled by your approach to music and wish someone could explain what I'm missing.

So yeh, I listen to lots of music. Actively. Love it, and nearly live for it. My ears have been dragged here and there, and I can embrace the darkest, the freest, the loudest all the way to the gayest, poppiest and ababcbiest...  As I hunt for more and more musics, I come here once in a while to check if there's anything new on the chippy front, and I here I am, forcing myself to listen to your whole thing, and forcing myself to believe there was a real intent behind making it because you seem desperate for having an audience. But I just don't get it. Your tracks are like samples, or rather, parts of songs - incomplete and simplistic. Yet, you manage to believe in your music so strongly that you hired the crème of the community to contribute to your work. Seeing the amount of blabla and the multiplicity of ways in which you're attempting to sell your rather skeletal work, I'm tempted to think you're being ironic. Or perhaps, it's something so deep I don't get it. And the feeling gets worse as I read this review of your album on Original Sound Version you've posted - what? How did you get this guy to post-rationalize your entire album?

I don't bite that 'minimalist' approach, and I don't bite the over-intellectualization of your music. Sorry if I come across as being harsh, but I wouldn't react if it weren't for the over-selling. And again, I might be wrong in not seeing what's truly there.

I thought the irony would be people making music using the platinum GBA.

And... You win! Indeed, that's what I thought too - these commercials are from 2002, and I kinda liked the irony in thinking this was directed at chip-musicians and their probability of reaching platinum... Well, at least I felt targeted big_smile

Oh, the irony...

@4:20 - had to change my pants

And that leaves us with the only important thing: being honest with your music. I'm getting really fed up with bands focusing only on adopting the memes and gimmicks of mainstream music thinking this will make them look better, or pro. I totally relate to Godinpants' idea of not taking yourself seriously, and perhaps I may be right in nuancing it with: stop taking your musical stardom so fucking seriously.

@Triforce: whether there's enough chips in your sound or not, I personally can't care less; however I've had a quick look at your tumblr page - http://triforcesydney.tumblr.com/ - you guys look all cool and cute on your photos and promo video, but where's the music? Presenting yourself as a musician with images instead of music makes you seem very vain.

Thanks for the input and ideas. You're right on that we're not going to get far by just opening the door and waiting; guess this is going to require good musician-courting talents smile Some of us believe the project will get better attention through playing gigs; we do have a few coming up and the prospect of a mini-tour at some point this year.

And very interesting point on "quality control". We believe in a wiki-like form control, through debate etc.. Songs that you want to submit for release have to be sent to this address: [email protected] - and of course, this address catches all members smile who basically need to be constructively critical, or remain silent. It would probably be the most effective way of establishing a quality standard, or just sucking altogether big_smile

Please get involved! big_smile And we're also curious to see how it will turn out; basically, from here, there are two possible outcomes: either we sit down and cry in a corner because most musicians are too vain, or, we have a bunch of acts performing under the same name and a decent community to write and re-write good tunes... the latter'd be fun!
