Seriously guys, this will not be just another festival. It's "the one"!  Get ready for some serious insanity.  8STATIC pulled off 30 performers in one night last year, imagine that over 3 days

why don't you guys make a FB event and try to organize rooms via that?

I'll split a room. I will get obnoxiously drunk so you will have to deal with that.

We celebrate our 4th anniversary at 8static on October 13th! This will be a very special, all-star event that you won’t want to miss at any cost! Back in 2008, the legendary Bit Shifter played the very first 8static at Studio 34. We are very honored to bring him back for our anniversary this month (as he also celebrates his birthday) and blow our minds with amazing LSDJ dance grooves.

Coming off his iconic Blip Festival performance this year, Radlib makes his 8static debut and will close out the night with some new material for us. Staging a retro-dance party with dual vintage FM synthesis enabled laptops, he will have everyone on their feet dancing to his upbeat jams.

Our very own Philadelphia showcase artist this year is the amazing an0va. A little math-rock permeates his hybrid offerings that are both cerebral and emotional. See why he took the community by storm last year with his debut release, “The Teaching Machine”. We are very proud to have him representing phillychip!

Last, but not least we have some freshly emerging talent from Michigan, Nikola Whallon. Having a diverse background in music, Nikola has impressed us this year with several killer open mic performances at 8static. He performed at MAGStock (sister event to the blockbuster MAGFest) this summer & we welcome him to our show this month.

Our visualists all come from Philly this month. 8static founder, NO CARRIER returns along with Chromacle and Animal Style. This crew will beautify all the fantastic music through our new double-projector setup.

Make sure you arrive early because at 8pm we will have a special event at this 8static. Presenting 12 veteran performers from 8statics past, we will debut our Alumni Showcase! An hour long set filled with top talent in the scene will warm you up before the main event begins. There will be some BIG surprises during this. DO NOT MISS!

IF you can’t make it, be sure to check out our live audio stream on Arecibo Radio and join us at our after-party at The Institute bar down the block where Decktonic will DJ away whatever is left of your energy and inhibitions.

Be sure to RSVP to our Facebook event

All music booking is being handled directly by MAGFest staff this year.  Josh had put together fantastic lineups the last couple years, but MAGFest has re-structured the music department responsibilities for the upcoming year.  The event has grown considerably since then and reorganization was inevitable.  I don't believe there was an intent to sleight anybody involved beyond an honest communication mishap.

dont want to fan any flames here because i loved playing Magfest 9 and want to play again, but if Josh is being thrown under the bus here than we might have a problem. i feel like hes done a great job so far, so before i send anything id like someone to PM me with more details.

I apologize for the confusion, I didn't realize this wasn't communicated earlier.

Oh, looks like I'm not involved anymore. Wish I had found out through means other than a forum post!

Chip music performers have been added to open call like all the other musicians.  It is being handled differently this year.
the music department at MAGFest is ultimately in charge of the lineup which will be chosen only by those who submit to [email protected]
After the submission process is over they will be consulting with other people involved in the chip scene and determine lineup at that time.
This is coming directly from the head of the MAGFest music department.

I think there's been some confusion here: the MAG announcement was a general open call for performers (vg cover bands, etc), but the chip showcase has always been organized separately. There have been no announcements about that yet.

I got an IM from someone on the chip music showcase side yesterday, with essentially this same information. Now I'm doubly confused.

Some clarity, folks?

security took my camera during infinity shred
did not buy any beverages from venue
major pregame done at terakawa ramen around corner

bottom line:
had a great time, everything worked out
got fantastic footage
wasn't going to let a couple sucky things ruin the big picture

CONS
...
- security being pretty strict

i still don't really understand the security guard drama. i heard some people complaining about security but never really heard what it was they were complaining about.

anyways, i talked to few of them at different points and they seemed like pretty good dudes. i think everyone thought they were trying to grab the crowd surfers and kick them out of the venue but i think they're trained to help people not fall on their heads/necks if they get pushed over the dividers. maybe i'm wrong about that.

but yeah, it was an incredible weekend. huge props to everyone who planned it! can't wait for next year.
