it says on the package that it's a famitsu exclusive so its not exactly retail packaging. retail gameboy light units came in a box.

For sale is a metallic gold Gameboy Light. It is fully working, but has seen its fair share of use - there is wear on the gold paint on most edges and corners. Pro Sound output is located at the bottom right. I will try to get a photo up soon, but it looks just like a Gameboy Light with wear in the finish as I have said.

The issue isn't dying the silicone, if the carbon contact on the bottom of the button is damaged or destroyed in the process then it's pointless.
