I'm about halfway through this album now, and it's got a lot of versatility in timbre and song structure.
Definitely worth a listen!
I don't know a lot about the GBA spec, but I am under the impression that there is a "hardware lock" that activates the CGB processor on boot instead of the GBA processor when you put in a DMG or CGB game.
Hey All,
In observance of the "One Trading Post Thread Only" rule, I'd like to request that a moderator close this thread, and perhaps also move it to a more appropriate subforum (Nintendo Handhelds?), as nothing ever really got sold in this thread and it ended up being more of a troubleshooting and investigative research thread.
I will post a new thread in the near future that will include my general "For Sale" items, as well as customized LSDj keyboards.
Thanks again for your interest, everyone! Good thread, you guys.
I drank a lot of coffee.
Yeah, currently the only way to get the darker start/select buttons is from whatever is left of a stock Play It Loud game boy.
A button set from kitsch is complete and includes a matched power switch, but no start/select buttons. The translucent silicone buttons will match lighter-colored button sets well, though.
Yeah, I think it's funny how a lot of strange game conventions carried over into new forms or got lost.
High Scores that go unrecorded in home video games to emulate the Arcade experience is one example.
Another example would be the convention of the "SELECT" button being used for menu functions, but these functions eventually being done by the directional input. Yet it's still called the "SELECT" button…
Wow, the original grey case looks really good with the Play It Loud button and screen set.
I just finished a "classic boy" myself, because I had one of the last Classic Grey kitsch cases and wanted to keep it unpainted/stock.
Here's how it looks so far:
It's the first game boy I've put NES buttons in, and I've got to say, I really like the NES D-pad a lot. Remind me to vote "NES buttons" every time I end up on kitsch-bent.
This might end up with a PCB mount pro-sound when I have money again, but other than that I basically intend to leave it stock. I'm happy with it. I'd also considered PIL Start/Select buttons, but I'm not going to rob my one PIL game boy of its buttons.
Well, thanks for correcting me dudes. It's good to know the truth.

No it didn't. Not when powering off the Gameboy.
Oh. Weird. I've been wrong about that for 20 years!
I was just messing with it for a second ago, it will preserve scores through a soft reset.
EDIT: That's cool, that means I can go back to leaving Tetris on my EMS page 2.
EDIT 2: This isn't even the dumbest thing I've done or said today, if you can believe it.
pretty sure the og tetris didnt have sram.
It had a way of preserving the high scores. I'm curious how it did that now.
The thing is that batteries in first generation DMG games are virtually all going dead now.
I have two copies of Tetris with what I think are dead batteries, but I took them apart to look and they don't have visible batteries, just a conspicuous epoxy blob on the PCB… maybe the save RAM in them is powered by a capacitor?
My point is, a lot of those games have dead batteries now. Which is strange, my copy of Pokémon Red is fine in the battery department.
As for the actual procedure, it's fairly simple, yet it's not for beginners. If you overheat the battery, it will explode and spray acid.
If you're not already competent at soldering, I'd ask a friend to help or to do it for you.
To actually do it, you need the 3.8mm security bit to open the game cartridge, as well as a replacement battery. Different games are sized for different batteries on the PCB, so check before you go looking for a battery. The batteries are stuck to the board with solder tabs, so you'll want a replacement with solder tabs as well. This same shop I'm linking to also offers a battery replacement mail-in service, but I don't know if the added cost is something you can justify.
Anyway, in short, if you already own soldering and desoldering tools and know how to use them, the battery change is as simple as finding the battery and making two quick solders. If you don't have tools or know how to use them, the procedure is as simple as finding the battery and a friend with tools who can help.
Very cool! I'm glad you're still actively developing! I haven't really played with many of the GBA programs that are available right now, but I'm glad to see the resources growing and growing.
Those are dyed/painted NES buttons. They could be custom molded, but I've never seen custom molded NES buttons.
I like the NES D-pad quite a bit, myself.
I dunno, I think it provided some interesting context for considering the nature of music and musicianship.
What do you want for the Clear DMG?
EDIT: I don't really used eBay. Get with me if you want to try to sell it via PayPal or another way.
If you are interested in trades, I have:
15+ various GB and color games sitting around I'm mostly willing to part with
Two prosound Game Boy Colors
Some spare DMG cases and parts
An uninstalled V3 Ultra white backlight
A white backlit DMG front board with a switch installed, which I could be talked into swapping out of its current home.
I'm open to negotiations, PM me if any of that proposal interests you.
