: ) I thought since the 10 keys are useless I'd go ahead and paint them red, then put a pixelated mushroom on them

though i'm not sure exactly how Im going to do that yet, stencils maybe?

The 10-key area actually provides another set of arrow keys and another enter, that's why I painted mine with a big grey d-pad look.

LSDJ keyboard still not finished yet, plan on painting some pixelated images on it, pics up when I'm done though! Thanks to telerophon for the color scheme!

No prob, dude. I'm glad it works for you. smile

I'm confused… your link goes to the same EMS cart he already has, but you are suggesting he get a Non-EMS cart?

It looks like most of what he sells are EMS carts.

If your SRAM loses power from the battery at any point, you will lose your save. This includes removing it to replace it.

Hey Guys,

Thanks again to all of you who've expressed interest in a keyboard.

I've worked out the complications and gotten mine functional, but I still want to test it a bit more heavily so that I can feel confident in the quality of the product I will be able to provide.

Thanks again for your time and consideration, I'll be back in touch with interested parties in the near future.

hey everybody -

the sockets have arrived, prom carts are restocked: http://store.kitsch-bent.com/product/ga … -cartridge

if there is a (fair/freely distributed) ROM you'd like to get on one, shoot me an email. 256kb or less.
thanks!

Weirdly specific questions, but if one were to buy this in a socketless configuration to solder later into a dedicated cart, does the cartridge case still come with the cutout for the socket access?

Also, do you have the specs on the PROM chips you are using, or on what compatible chips would be were I to hypothetically get a stack of circuit boards and cases and burn my own PROMs to make a bunch of dedicated carts?

I don't have a lot of experience working with PROM, but I have a friend with a programmer, and I like the idea of some permanent Pushpin / MuddyGB / Whatever cartridges.

I know your probably thinking "I can just Rit dye it though"... well, I find Rit dying to be a much larger task than just spraying a case quickly. Not to mention the results may seem close in my images, but up close in the right light, these suckers really pop. You can also do stenciling and still not cover the logos, which cant easily be done with Rit.

Out of curiousity, do you have any available resources about the RIT dye processes for DMG cases or other plastics? I'd be interested in learning about that.

wat

I'm going to defend thread necromancy in this case, because this forum exists to enhance knowledge about certain procedures and processes. If someone bumps and old thread with their input, I'd say that's better than someone making a new thread about an old subject when we could potentially keep all of the information together.

I uh… don't know how to answer that.

I'll try it as an experiment and see, but theoretically yes, as long as both iterations of LSDj can read the same format of save in the SRAM.

Really, though, there is virtually no benefit in doing this unless you keep an alternate version of LSDj for specific reasons.

I keep little toy programs that don't write to SRAM like muddyGB or the DMG Test Rom on my own Page 2.

Yo. About the EMS carts:

The EMS 64M carts overcome a limitation of the game boy hardware that was maxed out in the 32M carts. I don't understand what the restriction is very well, but apparently the way a cart has to be constructed restricts the maximum contiguous amount of memory to 32M. Ergo, the EMS 64M carts are just two 32M carts on the same circuit board, with only one SRAM slot.

So, think of your second page as another virtual cartridge, but for both virtual cartridges, you only have one save slot.

Therefore, if you run LSDj on Page 1 and use the SRAM to save your work in it, if you run a game on Page 2 and save your game, it writes over your LSDj save. Two virtual cartridges, but only one save slot.

I found that actually adding solder helps incredibly. Remove all the adhesive so you don't gunk up the tip though. But once you add solder, the heat is distributed more evenly, and I find I can always repair dead vertical lines if I use this method. The solder won't adhere to the cable, so it can be easily removed afterward.

I agree with you here ape. I used a small dab of solder to get the best results.

Solder is the most important part of the soldering iron—you have to keep the tip tinned and "wet" at all times for the iron to effectively transfer heat to the work, and it's essential for the "wetting" action of a good solder joint.

So, keeping the tip tinned makes the iron transfer heat to the ribbon cable more effectively, and it also keeps you from oxidizing the shit out of your solder tip and ruining it, which I did the first time I ever reflowed a DMG ribbon cable like this.
