In my final paper for my post-war Japan class, I'm trying to argue that for Japan, chipmusic is kind of the perfect embodiment of the mechanics of Japanese modern/postmodern culture (wherein the traditional meets the future and merge to become the present, as argued by Hiroki Azuma). I was wondering if a) anyone knows of any good academic resources about chipmusic and b) if so, if any involve the Japanese scene.

is it worth the hassle ?

I found one trick for using it is to just make the instrument you want to make and then clone it a ton, so that if the keyboard jumps to a different instrument (and it totally will), there will be no noticeable difference.
