Sorry, irrlichtproject, but I don't understand what you mean, and actually have feeling that you don't understand the problem or my explainations. Just look at this. Check the instrument and the song - it sounds just illogical. After the change it will sounds just as anyone would expect (exactly same module).

Give me an example in which case current PSG envelopes behaviour could be useful.

What are the 'note and track envelopes'? There are FM envelopes, which is feature of YM2612 and can't be changed at all, and PSG envelopes, which are made in software and could be changed as needed. I've thought that it would be nice to have PSG envelopes work just like FM ones initially, but it turned out that it simply does not allow to use PSG instruments with slow attack without using note cut effect on every note. So PSG envelopes just have to be changed right now, while there is not too much music made. There is no point to have an option for this, it would be like 'make PSG usable', 'make PSG less usable'. FM envelopes will not be changed, it is impossible to change them.

Should warn everyone who uses PSG: I'm going to change PSG envelope behaviour. Currently it works like FM envelope, never resetting output value. It could be useful for FM, but makes only problems for PSG, so I'm going to reset it on a new note in next versions.

VGM Music Maker v1.01, fixes the problems that were found so far.

v1.01 23.06.11

+ MIDI support is improved, now the editor works with MIDI USB keyboards
* Wrong file extension has been added to the instrument name on the instrument save
* *.vge instruments were not displayed in the open instrument dialog
* Changing instrument number through MIDI marked all the selected instruments
* PSG mute has not been initialized at start up, probably the reason why PSG sound was absent sometimes
* Group loading for samples has not worked properly
* Right mouse button has not worked properly for PSG instruments when used with on-screen keyboard
* VGM output is optimized, now files are smaller and works better with VGM players for actual Genesis/Mega Drive consoles
* FM polyphony in the instrument editor is increased to six channels
- DLL dependency with MSVC 2008 Redistributable is removed

These aren't bugs, that's how the effects works in MOD like trackers - you have to repeat the effect or n00 to hold it. You probably expect them to work like in FamiTracker, which has uncommon behaviour. The only effect that works a bit similar to FT in VGM MM is arpeggio, but unlike FT it stops with a new note. All this is explained in docs (god, how many times I said that in just a day...).

One working way to replay music from the editor on the console is found so far (with existing software): export music from the editor into VGM with sample rate 11025 (PCM quality settings in the 'Samples' sheet), and then convert it to a Genesis/MD ROM with Mike-Stamp's VGM_PLAY v2.00.

Turbo C++ Explorer (free Borland's C++ Builder version, does not exists anymore) for the editor. DLLs are compiled with MSVC 2008 Express. I don't have plans to release the source.

If you can't run the program (shows an error), install MSVC 2008 Redistributable. There is some dependency introduced by a compiler, unintentionally.

My website has a very special hosting, which does not work by Sundays. There is no extra info on the website anyway, all the info is in the archive you've downloaded (the archive is on separate FTP).

New features of v1.5 is that is broken to almost unusable state, but no one reported about it. Other features are minor, some fixes for old bugs, some minor features, one major feature - Undo/Redo.

Generally, public domain music is one that composed and recorded and digitized a really long ago, like 100 years or more - i.e. one with all the related rights expired (includes rights of the author, of performers, of people who converted it into modern formats, etc). The only way for modern music to be in PD is when the author is released it into PD. And there is big catch - it is not easy to release anything into PD with modern laws. I.e. you only can say you released it into PD, and don't take any legal actions after this - but from legal point of view it does not mean anything, and your work is still copyrighted. If there are organizations in a country that has rights to protect others copyrights without asking them (that's crazy, but there are such organizations in some countries), they can make you some headache. In some countries there is just no way to change legal status of a work into PD at all. In US, you need to take special actions to legally release a work into PD, which includes paper work and paying a fee (like $20) for processing the papers, so I highly doubt anyone care to do that.

So, CC-BY is one is the best available ways to get and use some free music.
