There is no MIDI import. You can 'convert' it by hand, or try to convert MIDI>MOD>VGM MM, but the result will be bad, and will require manual edit anyway (you have to load or create instruments at least).

Re: Floppy drive tune (3 replies, posted in Other Hardware)
How this works: a floppy drive has head that is moved by a step motor, you can make it move the head one position up or down. If you doing this at certain rate, you control speed of the movement, and height of 'tone' it produces. You can do similar things with some other devices with step motors, like printers and scanners, but they usually aren't provide direct control on the step motor, so you would need some extra hardware, and for a floppy drive there is everything that needed in a PC.

You need to turn them on with CC button, which is either on the progress bar or under the [ ^ ] button.
What you mean by 'real subtitles', the hard ones, that rendered into the video? That's not common for online videos. YouTube player has nice support of soft subtitles, you can even change font, colors and size.

While translation of next episodes is in progress, you can watch similar but earlier Kinaman's work - 'The Curse of the Gray Elephant', an hour-long video, practically a feature, that is focused on the Dendy thing in general. It contains much more swearing, though. English subtitles by DeniSS, CamaroSS, and Sobol14. They need a bit of proofreading, hope this will be done soon.

Topic: Dendy Chronicles - a NES-related web series (50 replies, posted in General Discussion)
Dendy Chronicles is a web series that tells story of unlicensed NES clones, known as Dendy, in Russia in 1990s and about games for it.
Kinaman is a 23 years old russian guy and a retro gamer. He started to make retro video games reviews just recently, and already gained some local popularity. Some people call him 'russian video game nerd' and make related jokes, well, he is for sure. What makes him different from other local VG reviewers is the things he is talking about. Instead of just swearing all the time, he reminds us how crazy early console gaming experience was in Russia in the past. Major reason why I like to watch reviews of popular english-speaking VG reviewers is that they show me sort of an alternative reality, because here things were very different. I think it could be interesting for people outside of Russia to see an alternative reality too, that's why I decided to make english subtitles for Kinaman's videos.
First three episodes are dedicated to all the games about Mario that were released for Dendy. There are a bit more games than you could expect.
How to use subtitles in YouTube player:
You can enable them with the CC button at the bottom right, or, in case of the embed player, with the triangle button at the bottom right and then with CC button in the pop-up menu.
To make subtitles background opaque that makes them easier to read, press B button on the keyboard. You also can change font size with +/- button, and there are other settings available under the CC button.

I understand how this works, but it impresses me a lot anyway.

Good work, although audio needs an improvement for sure. You need a pop filter (easy to make by yourself), and better music/voice volume balance.

No, it not goes to SMS/GG mode. PSG works the same regardless of a system.

Re: VGM Music Maker - a Sega Genesis tracker (174 replies, posted in Sega)
PSG channels aren't equal. There are three tone channels (PSG 1-3), and one noise channel (PSG 4). There are few noise channel modes, some of them also use PSG 3:
Normal white noise mode only allows to use three pitches of the noise - low (note C), middle (note C#), high (note D). In this mode noise channel does not interact with PSG 3.
With note D# on PSG 4 you enable fine pitch control for white noise. In this case pitch of the noise is defined by a note on PSG 3, and both channels sounds at once (tone from PSG 3 and noise from PSG 4). If you want to mute the tone completely, use a PSG instrument with TL=127 on PSG 3.

Don't you think using Backspace for Edit mode is very counter-intuitive? It is on Space key in most of existing trackers.

First time I have loaded score but no instruments - no sound. Now I loaded an instrument too, there is sound in the editor.
With loaded instrument there are sounds when I press keys on the keyboard. No matter if an instrument is loaded or not, I can't enter anything in the pattern editor, only cursor and navigation keys works.

Pattern editor blinks constantly, like it redraws all the time - very unpleasant for eyes
Interface is a bit screwed, pattern cursor is misplaced - probably because the program does not count DPI settings in Windows (125% here)
No reaction on keyboard presses, just shows key code in the window header
No sound in editor mode when Play is active (timer counts time), sound is present only in player mode.

Re: How to add a sample WAV using VGM Maker? (16 replies, posted in Sega)
You don't need to understand Z80 assembler, because I provided compiled driver (bin) - I only included its source in case you'll need to change something.
C file is just an example, I don't think it is too difficult to get the main idea from it.
