And hello to you also, n00bstar. I think I fixed that arpeggio thing, it might not be in the latest windows nightly. You can of course reset the arpeggio with 1000.

Erm..never noticed that before! I never use 10xx set arpegio notes since 00xx works just fine. But yeah, I can see why 10xx exists now smile thx!

Bxx works so that if you want to select a waveform you need to OR the bits for the waveforms, e.g. pulse would be B02 but pulse mixed with triangle (B04) would be 2 OR 4 = B06. If you just enter random Bxx values the description in the status bar will read something like (LP) which is LFSR (pokey) mixed with pulse or (NP) which is noise + pulse.

Works fine for the synth's waveforms of course, I've been using that extensively in my music since the first versions of klystrack I used. But what I meant was the wavetable *samples* actually. Like B20 and up doesn't seem to select anything even if there's data in the wavetable. It would be cool to have a command that allowed to select different waveforms from the samples. It could be another command that's not a bit thing? Maybe like W01 for the first sample in the wavetable, then W02 for the second one etc etc. It would make the synth into a wavetable synth and interesting morphs could be achieved with it.

hello

- Arp effects on channels remain active when you change songs. Ex: if channel 00 has 037 on it, if you load a new song, or make a new one and play a 000/0F0/0F1 instrument in channel 00, it will arp with the old song's 037. This should reset when making a new song, or loading another one. Also, there should be a way to clear this data from within a song. Entering 000 obviously won't work, so there should be a command just for killing that channel's arp data.
- CTRL-C/V while a track is running...ugh
- When using CTRL-K (and that's like, 80% of the time btw) to clone a pattern, you need to switch between sequence and pattern editors a few times to make sure the software is on the right pattern, otherwise it jumps you back a couple patterns, clones some random shit without seeing any result on the sequence editor, but still wastes a pattern.
- Pretty much the same with CTRL-U
- Not sure if I'm using it wrong or if the Bxx command in the instrument editor can actually select waves. I've tried a few times and got nothing.
- Song timer eventually stops working and stays at 0:00

goodbye

First impression:
- crashes all the time with params set to extreme values
- no decent envelope system makes FM very lifeless
- I will probably never use it in this state. Same category as the POKEY oscillator: good intentions, bad execution, pointless in most musical contexts.

Ideas:
- Make channels a possible carrier or modulator like Ring/Sync works right now so we can have channels, playing all manners of other instruments, modify (or be modded by) an FM sound. That would open up worlds of possibilities.
- Add more waveform presets to the wave editor. That way some of the more classic mix of oscillator shapes + fm would be accessible. It would also make the old synth engine much more versatile at the same time. (I'VE SEEN YOUR CODE, I KNOW IT WOULD TAKE ALMOST NO EFFORT FOR THIS. DON'T LIE. DO NOT LIE TERO. I KNOW WHERE YOU LIVE.)

More ideas:
- separate volume and pitch on the noise oscilator. <- THIS x1000
- colors in the sequencer. Let's be honest, names for patterns would mess up the interface something bad. BUT. Adding colors to the background of the pattern 'block' would serve the same purpose and is probably way easier to implement.
- live mode
- live mode
- live mode
- live mode.

I have no particular opinion on FM. The only thing that worries me is like you say: if klystrack starts doing too much, it'll start being less oldschool/chippy and more of a DAW-ish thing. But before new implements, there are bugs that could probably be fixed quick:

-pressing 'loop from current' when your cursor is over a channel with no pattern in will loop the 64th row of the previous pattern instead and is insanely annoying

-arp effects carry from song to song. if I have a 037 on channel 1 in song A and then load song B, the channel still has the 037 applied. If you play a 0F0x instrument in channel 1, it'll arpegiate.

-sometimes the sequencer view at the top of classic view seems to kind of desync with where you really are in the song. If you CTRL-K over a pattern to make a copy.. sometimes it doesn't work. What really happens is that a pattern was indeed copied, to the next available pattern as expected, but that the pattern copied is another one, and it doesn't show up on the sequencer window. If you press enter a couple times to switch the cursor between sequencer and pattern editors, you'll see that upon coming back to the sequencer your cursor is pointing a few patterns before the one you thought you were on before. It's that pattern that's been copied. I don't know the specific trigger for it however. But it happens often enough that has a precaution I always quadruple-enter before I CTRL-K a pattern (which I do all the time)

Also.. instead of converting some FX busses to 'masters', you should just let every instrument export to all FX busses. You just toggle which busses it sends to... like [ ]1  [ ] 2  [ ] 3  [ ] 4 etc. That way people can make their own, and as many master channels as they want, and it also opens the door for some creative FX work.

And a simple live mode. Load two songs side by side, each with a volume fader. That's it smile

+1: for pattern break command
+1: for not crashing on my computer anymore
+1: song timer

-3: does not load/play any old song

My favorite Cheapbeat release to date. True oldschool demo/cracktro at its finest. Very good work man.

Nah, I just came to the forum a few minutes ago. But yeah, I was basically saying your post would be better kept in private.

/removed

Well now you went and fucked up my post haha.

Glad you liked it! I wasn't too sure about including Trinity at first, it kind of clashes with the style of the other tunes. I thought I could release it as part of something else that's more in the same vein but ... I don't do a lot ambiant-ish downtempo stuff so that would have taken forever. I always end up putting some kind of rhythm section in my shit heh. (literally.. I put drums in my shit. it's costing me a fortune in snares)

Rumor has it that there is the possibility of maybe having somewhat of an idea about perhaps putting in place the foundation for the beginning of what could be construed as the start of what might become something similar to a collaborative entity of like-minded melody-driven individuals who would gather in a loose group-like formation partaking in activities along the lines of production-type endeavours of a musical quality. It has even been said that a few of these not-of-the-new-school person-type people could be looking forward to trying to find other characters of such inclinations to join the ranks of this so called fellowship. One might even interpret such a course of action as a reason to compose and expedite one of these electronic letters to the concerned gentlemen for the purpose of offering one's possible candidature for membership in this most grand and glorious of adventures. Should the reader of this simple and elegant missive found him-- or herself to be of an artistically compatible creed, that person would be well advised, perhaps even encouraged, to assemble an indefinite quantity of what they would consider to be their best material into an archive of zipable essence, or perhaps a collection of uniform resource locators, and promptly communicate with the afore-mentioned gentlemen with the details in how to obtain, or access, the material.

Brought to you by the department of redundancy department.

hahaha, I'm so done with this forum.

Aye, I already listened to it all more than once wink Was just hoping to hop on the live chat to get some secret magic info on the usual stuff. How was this made, what did you use, if a tree falls in the forest etc. Dunno if 8 was too early, I think it's a good time. It's just me who can't fucking remember to be anywhere on time big_smile

Great work man. As was stated, this reminded me a lot of Super Metroid.. which is no small praise.

Damn. I just missed it didn't I? sad

I look at it as flattery and generally helping my cause, though I do know that sort of bittersweetness is there.

Yeah that's pretty much how I see it too. Out of all that is out there, he picked those songs. I got credited properly and it's all done very cleanly. It's not like I found one of my song in EA's latest game or something. I just find it weird that he didn't contact me at all. If I liked some dude's music and wanted to youtube it or something, I'd definitely contact the guy. I mean if I find his music cool and all, I'd want to let him know and give him props for it.

It happened to me before a couple years ago when I had my electro house project. I found one of my songs online on youtube. Back then there was absolutely no way for this guy to contact me from the outlets I had for my songs (shit would go to the label's email and bla bla) so I contacted him and ended up having long MSN chats with the guy and sending him my entire 'discography'. The kid was so stoked, it was pretty fun smile

breakfastsquid wrote:

also this isnt "using" your track, it's just sharing it. they're not gaining anything from uploading it in the first place.

Aye. It's true that he's not doing it for profit. Hell he's probably doing it more out of genuine appreciation for the music.. but that brings me back to the original point, if he likes it enough to put this effort in, why not contact me? It's not like I'm.. who was it.. Miley Cirus lol? It's not as much a question of 'permission' as  it is one of.. I dunno.. giving people a heads up on things. Hell even just a "hey check out these videos I made with your songs" would've been great. I guess I'm just confused with the fact there was zero communication.

defPREMIUM wrote:

u sound like an old guy wink plus i could never justify being upset about someone uploading my music (even if it wasn't free) for the simple fact that i have used youtube so much to listen to other artists' music that i hadn't bought..

Call me old one more time and you're getting hit upside the head with a cane smile  But yeah, I'm not upset at all about it, just surprised. This entire scene has a grand total of zero 'stars' that cannot be reached one way or another. Maybe the guy is even a lurker here.. in fact it's more than likely since CMO is the only place where this EP was advertised. So again.. dammit, why no emails? I WANT MY FANMAIL DAMMIT. ALL THE FANMAIL. Also, some cocaine would be nice.

rygD wrote:

Consider if your music was popular.  Would you want 5000 emails a day asking if people can use it for this thing or share it in some way?

Well there's a huge gap between no emails, and 5000 emails per day. But yeah.. I'd be totally stoked to get emails! Isn't it what drives us all to make more and better music, knowing that people out there like it? Maybe 5000 per day would be a bit much, but getting a few of them per week would be fucking great smile

I usually overreact and go straight to the forums about it

You're just a fat bearded cunt with an attitude problem and I would take great pleasure in carving your face off with a dull knife. That, is overreaction. See the difference?

Yeah I hear that. That's pretty much the way I see it too. Just would've been nice to be asked, out of principle.
