Hey I recognize that face logo from a youtube video I saw. Was that you with the contrast dial that would invert the screen? Did you ever figure out why it did that if that was you?

Excuse my newness but I have used the search function as well as googled arduinoboy but all i can find is diy kits. what is the use of an arduinoboy. it looks neat and I kinda want one but im not totally sure what theyre for.

You said the board was cleaned good? What did you yse to clean it. The only thing I can think of is you have a short on that contact maybe by some kind of grime

Well, there are developer cartridges, with stuff like EPROM. There's gotta be something, ahaha
I use eeprom to program remotes and keys for cars sometimes.
