Wonderful!  That worked like a charm smile

Hey all,

If anyone has the know-how and the time, I am in need of a custom ROM that displays a single image (I'm pretty noob when it comes to what goes into this process, so forgive my ignorance).  If anyone's interested, send me a message and we can work out the details.

Thanks!

So what kind of loca(osaka 6/7 or brown tube?), and how long, and what way did you cure it?

I used the brown tube from Kitsch-Bent's shop.  I work during the day and I don't have a UV lamp so I had to leave it to cure on the window sill while I was at work (so 8+ hours).

Hey all.

I was letting some LOCA glue cure on a GBC screen for a frontlight mod and everything looked fine until the other day I noticed that there was some clouding at the bottom of the screen.

Any idea why this has happened?  Can this be saved?  If not, is there a way to at least salvage the frontlight?
I really don't want to have to order ANOTHER replacement screen AND frontlight kit if I can help it.

Thanks!

We used chip and vocals throughout our album and piano appeared on a few songs (like Doomsday and W.M.D.)

You guys nailed it.  It was totally the bivert chip.
Everything works great now!  Thank you!

Maybe check the connection ribbon cable between the two PCBs?

I thought the same thing initially, but the problem persists when I hook up a completely separate front PCB sad
Just to be doubly sure, I hooked up the original front to an unmodded back and had no problems.

I'm finishing up a commission for someone right now and have run into an odd problem.  Maybe someone can help.
(This mod has a backlight, a bivert chip, and a 1/4" pro-sound kit)

At one point, I was having no problems.  I had everything wired up the way I planned to have everything while I was painting the shell separately.  Once I finished painting the shell, I needed to de-solder the pro-sound kit so that I could insert the jack.  After soldering that back up, I am no longer getting any image on the screen.  To me, this seems quite odd since I don't think the screen and the sound are at all related.  I'm certain that the ribbon cable and the polarizing film aren't responsible since I've taken the front PCB and hooked it up to a spare unit.  This tells me that something on the back PCB is causing the problem.  Does anyone have any ideas?  This is weird!

I've attached some images (sorry they're very, very blurry) to hopefully shed some light.

EDIT: The contrast wheel does, in fact, still affect the image, but there are no visible graphics like the black startup bar.

Thanks, guys!
This should help!

Hey all,

So I'm working on a mod right now that has a lot of things that need to tap into the 5v on a DMG and I was hoping someone might be able to explain the best way to hook up multiple wires into the same lead.  For example, I have two LEDs that I want to wire into the same leads as my backlight.

Thoughts?

Many thanks!

I've just released my first album through the name Automatic Chance, an electronic project fronted by my sister with myself on composition, production, and occasional vocals.  It's been out for a little over two weeks.

I just wanted to share it with you guys.  It isn't strictly chiptunes, but there's plenty of chip influence throughout the album.

Thanks to one and all who take the time to give it a listen!

Drill a small hole in the guide column for the button and light it from the side using one or more SMD LEDs maybe?

Hmmm...  Now there's an idea.  Thanks for the tip!  I may have to give that a shot at some point.

Clear rubber conductive pads for DMGs...

Do these even exist?  Everywhere I have looked, I have only found white and those weird baby blue ones.
(Context: I'd like to backlight some translucent acrylic buttons on a DMG)

Hey all!

I work at a local retro game shop and the owner has recently expressed an interest in contracting custom Gameboys from me to sell in our store.

I know there are probably some veterans out there that have done this a million times.  I was hoping someone with a little free time might be able to do me a solid and whip up a GB rom that displays a still image (forgive me if there's a specific name for this).  I don't know anyone with a rom flasher so that might be another bridge I have to cross in the near future, but in the meantime, if there are any takers, let me preemptively express my sincerest gratitude!

This is the image I was hoping to get:

It's usually just called a (linear) polarizer or polarizing film. Are you interested in the chemical composition or do you just want to buy some? I wouldn't hold my breath for finding it locally, but it's readily available on line. First Google result for example: http://www.polarization.com/polarshop/
If you are on a zero budget or wish to have some fun, try doing a teardown of an old/broken monitor. You will find a sheet of polarizing film as one of the layers in the LCD panel.

You nailed it with this answer.  I was looking to buy some.  That's awesome!  Thanks very much!
