Thank you, everyone. :3  The 3M tape worked beautifully.

I thought I was being clever by using the antonym of an archangel. But not only is it already a thing... I also spelled it wrong.

Then I realized Castlevania already did this. And with the same spelling. And it's totally related to video games.

Quintiple Fail

Relating to video games isn't a bad thing~

[From wiki]:

Materia medica (English: medical material/substance) is a Latin medical term for the body of collected knowledge about the therapeutic properties of any substance used for healing (i.e., medicines). The term derives from the title of a work by the Ancient Greek physician Pedanius Dioscorides in the 1st century AD, De materia medica, 'On Medical Materials' (Περὶ ὕλης ἰατρικῆς in Greek).

[Not from wiki]:

I believe that art is a universal language.  We can all understand each other through it.  I believe these raw expressions of feeling to be 'medical materials' for the problems that ail our world, because it can be used to connect with one another as living beings instead of being apart and at odds.

the 'x' is for many reasons.  i consider myself 'straight edge'.  in certain circles, it is used to represent 'together with'-- such as in erotic or romantic manga, thus representing togetherness or intimacy.  it also represents multiplication, for which it is applied mathematically;  as in to suggest that we multiply these 'medical materials' of togetherness, oneness, love and empathy.

tl;dr: cat pictures

I've got a DMG that is entirely fine other than that the lens/screen guard won't stay down.

Would anyone be so kind as to share with me what sort of adhesives you use that don't cause any damage and work well, and where I may procure them?

Thank you~♥

I don't trust unfinished software.  Also, having tested it myself, it's a mess even for alpha code.

I, personally think that the creator is an idiot. I'm going to be stubborn, and just pronounce it "gif" because I always have done.

I'm with this guy.  Yeah, it can be 'JIF' as soon was we pronounce 'Graphics' as 'Jraphics'.  We don't, and we won't.

It's 'Gif'.  Steve Wilhite doesn't decide how the English language works.. Not to mention, all patents related to the compression process have since expired, a battle over which resulted in the creation of the PNG standard.  He doesn't even own any rights anymore.

I have an internal prosound DMG from 8ba and find it very nice both for music and for gaming.

It does indeed reduce the dissonant hiss that can come through a lot of games on the stock output.

Just be sure that you buy some new adhesive for your screen cover; Chris (who operates 8ba) told me that the problem I had with mine not being well attached is very common, as the heat of shipping seems to make the adhesive he puts on peter out.  I personally think he should wait for his sealer to dry a bit more, as your package will arrive smelling like it. : p  But it's an extremely cheap fix and he, in general, does good work.  Very easy to contact him for customer support all through the process as well, as he's quick to respond via e-mail.

Good guy to work with.

I thought it might be nice to have a thread for Linux users to discuss their preferences, tips, and goodies.

I myself presently use Ubuntu 12.04 Precise Pangolin.  I'm considering moving to the newest LTS, as I enjoy Ubuntu a lot.  Though, I notice that most chipware seems to be for different or older distros such as Debian.  I'm not a software developer, just a musician;  Is it because of issues with ease of use that programmers seem to prefer these older platforms?  Or is it out of dedication to a particular system, eschewing newer things for what they're used to?

Regardless, I've had some fun playing about with Milky Tracker, and Propellerhead REASON 5 (running in WINE, along with Ableton Live being what I use more for non-chip music.), though I've not been able to get WINE to behave with the necessary software to use the 64mb cart I got from nonfinite on this computer and have to resort to using my sister's old WinXP/7 rig for transfers from it to a thumb drive.

How about you folks?  Find any problems in Linux systems related to our shared hobby?  Any workarounds, fixes, sweet little programs you may've found that you're willing to tell us all about?

Getting it working on Ubuntu is even more of a pain.  As for the cable, if you happen to have a PS3, the cable that charges your controllers will work; it's what I use.

The software/driver stuff is finicky, but the cartridge itself is a good buy.  I've used it for DMG, pocket, colour, and in advance/SP.  Works best with DMG, pocket and colour whereas I prefer other things for advance/SP.  If you get frustrated, just take a break and keep in mind that when you DO get it working, you've got a very nice little piece, particularly if it's used primarily for LSDJ like mine is.  I imagine they're also very nice for flashing other things onto, but I'm not far enough along in my education in software to tool around with such things just yet.

As was noted above, nonfinite offers to include the cable along with it.  That's where I got mine and I had them send me an extra cable along with it (though I have several already from my PS3 and a couple of digital cameras, which also often come with them as a means of file transfer.)  If you prefer buy your cables separately, try the part of your chosen shop where they deal in digital cameras and you should find them.  I notice that they tend to retail for under $10 USD but that, of course, may be different for you depending on which shop you like and where you live.

Good luck and have fun, friend. ♡

an action adventure intergalactic carnival of destruction for 1 or 2 bohabs

performed in kolourpaint for ubuntu 12.04 with my laptop touchpad.  start to finish in approximately one hour.  when i play in paint i don't allow myself to erase; so I may edit this one to make it look a bit better without that rule.

I like to pre-make backing beats and use a keyboard (modified computer keyboard) and a looper (which is on a pedalboard with other effects) to put down bass and lead by controlling LSDJ on a pro-sound DMG.  Though it may be cheating because I also make use of bass guitar.

I have never played to more than a handful of people, however.  So this may not be applicable to setups large enough for people to want to come and see.

There isn't any here.  It is possible that there are a few fans on the local college campus, but I greatly dislike going to college campuses.

If you keep adding more bits and pieces to further the depth of customization, this is going to very quickly become a favourite go-to for a lot of people.  I love it! : ]
