Yes commons3nse, sent him an email on the 14th. No reply yet, I'm sure he's just busy or hasn't checked his inbox.

With my cart reader/writer you can flash your ROM's to my carts. I've finished the multi-rom compiler which builds a ROM menu for when you turn the gameboy on and compiles all your ROM's to the one writable file, to be burnt to the cart. The software will map any ROM's requiring save ram to specific locations on the Flash IC (so they don't overwrite each others save files), then slot in the remaining ROM's into boundary alligned free space. This way you get to use all 64M (or 256M on the larger carts) for your ROM's.

Update on the 32K SRAM issue, the SRAM (High address bits) is physically mapped to the ROM, so the 32k is split across the ROM in 4 different parts. 32K is all each program can access :-( It just means you only get 4 saved songs / cartridge. You can always extract them to your pc!

Yes, they work on Linux, OSx and Windows. (anything that will run python)

They should be available mid next week. Just waiting on a few components before they can be shipped. This may be the last batch I sell personally as a distributor has shown interest.

hmm might grab one, just did some reading on your site, seems legit! Is the cart reader/writer also available?

Haha, are there that many dodgey sellers out there?

so, in other words, you can only have four songs total on this cart?  if only a 32K ram size can be read, then you'll be disabling the file system on LSDJ.  which would ideally have a 128k ram size to allow for the file system.

which will mean one song per copy of LSDJ = 4 songs on the cart.

or am i missing something?

Yes, 1 song per copy. I'm working on a hardware workaround to map all 128k to the base address now. Alternately LSDJ could be patched to swap banks to access all 128K. Options...

How many files can be stored on the 128K? or is it song length specific?

Hi Kitsch,

I'll email him now. You are saying it is better for the customer to make a donation so they hold the license? (so far the buyers have provided evidence of their own license. Hopefully I haven't stepped on anyone's toes!)

I'm new at LSDJ, just been playing with it on and off in my spare time. Is 32K not enough? Is there a noticeable difference between one instance running on 128k vs 32k? (other than the save/load options?)

I've been using these carts for testing my homebrew stuff and a game now and then. My brother suggested LSDJ as the carts can be tricky to source.

For those that have already paid, I will gladly offer a refund if the 32k SRAM is insufficient - I'm not in it for the $$$'s, its just a hobby.

Thanks for the heads up Kitsch

Hi everyone, wow they sold out quick! Those who emailed me have received an email back.

Jmc1987, The license? Yes, that is what the extra $5 in my original post is for (That is reasonable per cart, yes?), unless the buyer can prove they already have a license. I cant see the necessity to buy 4 licenses for the one cart, the only reason there are 4 copies per cart is because LSDJ cant detect the entire 128K.

Egr, the way the FLASH is mapped divides the 128K SRAM across the flash in 4 32K blocks, hence the four copies on the one cart.

Reader/Writer PCB's and MCU's have arrived, waiting on the cart connectors and they'll be ready to ship. I can send an email off to Nitro2K01 and he should be able to add the protocol for the Altane to read and flash these carts, if you have one of these.

Yes that is my website, take a look around!

I will have more carts arriving in around 2-3 weeks. I will re-post when they are available or send me an email if you would like to reserve one.

Hi,

I have a few Gameboy LSDJ cartridges available. Each cart (64M) has 4 instances of the latest LSDJ release, each with access to 32K SRAM.

Free Postage Worldwide (Unless you live in one of those werid places that for some reason costs more - check with me)

AUD$30  (AUD$25 If you have your own license for LSDJ)

Also have limited supply of 256M carts (16 LSDJ instances per cart)

I've just re-wrote the software for Linux, It cant auto-detect the device (yet), you need to know where linux has mounted the device i.e. ttyUSB0. Other than that, no issues. Tested on Ubuntu 12.04 with Python 3.4.1 and Pyserial.

rygD,

Yes it should work fine under Linux as the PC side software is now written in Python. I'd just have to change a few GUI commands at the most. I'll try it out on Ubuntu tomorrow and let you know.

No problem Syphus. I've spoken with the guy that's designed the Altane's hardware, software and firmware. He has an unbelievable knowledge of all things game boy and has helped me out countless times with my projects. This is sure to be the most high-end, professional PC-Cart interface ever produced!

I wonder if Smartboy's supply has dried up? Its a shame that something as simple as good communication (or lack of) has ruined what would have been  a great product. Word of mouth is everything in such a small community.

I'm glad I found this thread, I was about to place an order... I'll spend the extra on a dragnderp or something similar.

Syphus, if all you're after for now is a cart reader, I have a few available. Can dump Rom's + Saves, burn saves and Burn Roms to Flash carts (i.e. MrFlash, Bung etc...) I made it to actually save my 20+ yr old gameboy camera pics to PC. $25AUD, and can usualy post as a 'letter' as its so thin which means only a few $'s for postage.

I've got them up on Ebay.au so you're covered with all that paypal protection.

Take a look at www.bennvenn.com for info on the hardware
