i updated the first post with info about a new product:

http://store.kitsch-bent.com/product/custom-buttons

new buttons, better buttons, machine-cast buttons, cheaper buttons.  goodgoodgood

NeX, these are a little better than the set you got, imo.  the clear isn't as clear (its more milky-ish), but they look much better, and feel great...

Yeah the ones from a few months ago were a bit average to be honest.

Can y'alls turn off the auto-play feature on your site? It makes work browsing a bit embarassing "OH DEAR WHAT IS THIS PAGE IT MUST BE AN ADVERT OR SOMETHING LET ME CLOSE THE BROWSER RIGHT NOW THEN PRESS MUTE then go back on the site"

hmmmm, autoplay is set to 'off' in the *.xml file...  if you have something disabled in your browser, this may be the reason.  like...  cookie settings on your work machine or something.

that shouldn't be happening, unless the xml file loads wrong, which occasionally happens.  but, the whole thing is generally messed up then, not only the autoplay part.

i dunno.  shouldn't happen.

i put up a vid of the RGBva kit in action, since i've had a lot of requests for a vid.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=55gHs4iRN9M

yes, it is out of focus.  yes, i spend an inordinate amount of time on the shades of blues, and not greens and reds.

a newer vid will be uploaded, but i'm swamped, so enjoy for now.

I gotta be honest here... The fact that this uses a single LED as it's source means that in the real world there are obvious diffusion issues. The light just isn't even across the whole panel.

I MUCH prefer the dual LED backlights compared to this model. Hopefully it's something that can be fixed in a future version as the ability to blend RGB values is very cool.

When I get down to it through it's much more important to me personally to have an even diffusion rather than it looking like someone is shining a spotlight through the side of some acrylic plastic.

It's a real shame because I've had issues with order fulfillment and quality control from other suppliers and I was hoping this would be my alternative.
Regardless, keep up the good work kitsch. Looking forward to RGB backlight Mach II. smile

Maybe this isn't an issue for others so I encourage you to buy one to test out. I'm really not trying to be a negative Nancy here but it's just not on par with other solutions.

In other words, it's not a Nonfinite light. tongue

I tend to agree that the RGBva is somewhat behind the curve, though not by much. I tested one for Kitsch, and to be perfectly honest I really really like the idea a ton, and the PCB design for the adjustment board is very clever and extremely nice. I agree, the spotlight effect leaves something to be desired, though obviously some of the Nonfinite kits had this same problem. Even multi led kits have issues with this, mostly because the DMG lcd is not meant to be backlit, and it really shows. Personally, I'm looking forward to a thinner one that'll work in GB Pockets, since I only had a pocket to test on and the kit just *barely* didn't work right. It was too thick. Second the motion for MK II. big_smile

thanks guys (:  constructive criticism helps a lot, as some things folks mentioned have already been implemented.  the choice to go with a single LED was a call after i had a dual version made up as well (well, a few versions, different thicknesses, single/dual LEDs, etc...).  its really just a matter of balancing things that i like about what is on the market, with things i (personally) thought were rather strange design features.  but, yeah, to each their own i suppose.  but, the feedback does help tons.  i mean, i've just got to keep in mind the reality that it is really just a backlight...  and at some point chasing after the perfect one gets kind of ridiculous.  the design could be redone for ages honestly...  and will be changed more like it should.  i would imagine there will never be a final version.  and, there shouldn't be i guess, as there is always something to improve upon...

so, yeah, i hope the vid helps people that have asked.
