It's happening this weekend: the official premiere of the Europe In 8 Bits documentary about chiptune:
Experience a weekend of chiptunes on Friday 22 and Saturday 23rd November to celebrate the world premiere of EUROPE IN 8 Bits, the only chiptune documentary launching at the International Documentary Festival at the Melkweg in Amsterdam. Teaming up with the world's biggest recurring chiptune party EINDBAAS, "You'll be surprised by this thing called chiptunes", says EINDBAAS founder Frans Twisk.
The premiere night takes place on Saturday 23rd of November at Melkweg Amsterdam, opening with the display of lo-fi hardware-installations & visuals by dutch artist Gijs Gieskes and the Spanish visual art group Distortled Box. At 20:30 Melkweg's movie theatre doors open for the Europe In 8 Bits documentary showing you the complete in-depth story of the chiptune scene: how it started and spread rapidly across the world and how artists use the (limited) technology of old gaming hardware and how this inspires their creativity.
“You’re guaranteed to leave the theater with a smile on your face.”
- IDFA about Europe In 8 Bits
Saturday night ends with the official IDFA afterparty hosted by EINDBAAS. Join us for 2 hours of danceable chiptunes, composed and performed live on the original 1989 Nintendo Gameboy by Men of Mega (NL) and a special collaboration between Ralp and Culomono (ES). EINDBAAS founder Frans Twisk fills in the gaps with a DJ set, featuring diverse music from the scene.
For anyone up for more chiptunes EINDBAAS & EUROPE IN 8 BITS also organize an exclusive FREE pre-party on Friday 22rd of November, inviting six international artists who are featured in the documentary itself. This will be at the small underground DJ club Cue Bar on Rembrandtplein. More info about the event can be found on www.eindbaas.org
