I've had this Dell Latitude C600/C500 collecting dust for a few years. I know it has an ESS Maestro 3I soundcard in it, but I have no idea what its capabilities are, if it has an OPL, or if this thing is worth restoring. Can any FM gurus help a Beware out?
I believe the ESS Maestros are ES19xx models, which are not OPL3 or earlier. So they wouldn't be SB/SB16 compatible. It may be even wavetable.
Could be ESFM, which is better than wavetable. I've read people having success with ESS sound cards. You would have to look up the datasheet or just try it out. If it did work, you'd have to use it in windows mode and not DOS mode from what I read here: http://www.vogons.org/viewtopic.php?p=285227
