Lately I've really got into a bunch of those late-90s demoscene/tracker artists who went on to be fairly influential in the IDM world... e.g. Brothomstates/Dune, Lackluster, Vim etc.

I love that late-90s minimal IDM sound anyway, and I find it really interesting how it (at least in part) very audibly grew out of the tracker scene and how the technical peculiarities of working with trackers came to define aspects of the sound, even when the artists themselves stopped using trackers.

Which other demoscene artists should I be listening to if I like this sort of thing?

I'm not familiar with Brothomstates/Dune but how about esem? You might also enjoy Marek, Melwyn or perhaps Grip. Non-demoscene: Mikael Fyrek and Mint.

If you haven't heard of some of these guys, give them a listen. smile

P.S: trackers forever! big_smile

Hmm... not sure if they're rooted in the demoscene, but at least the online community:

Ochre
Marumari (Spotted him on 8bc the other day)
Ilkae

Basically, check the Monotonik catalogue

Iqtu, Proem, maybe early Cex, uhh... Casino vs Japan?

MD (founder of scene.org) released some good stuff as Mel O Dee in the scene, later as MD or Kzschzt. Loonie and Radix did some PC-scene electronica. Yolk did some nice things aswell, as Crankshaft I think. Labels like Merck, Neouija and Tokyo Dawn had plenty of eellktkektrronika-demosceners.

Or, yeah, check all the larger PC-demos from the late 90s. As I remember they all had blue tunnels and pretty decent melodic tracker-IDM, hehe. Tpolm and Replay. Hm.

VST killed the IDM!!

You should check out Mortimer Twang, Eddie Svärd and Non Plus Ultra.

The black dog used to make amiga mods.
Also check extraboy (goto80's beautiful electronica) on subnatura.
Bogdan raczynski apparently was a demoscener.
Röksopp used to make c64 stuff, nuke/spaceman now makes lounge as atjazz,
and sami liuski of bangkok impact made amiga and pc mods as illusion.
Ps dune indeed rules, there is this beautiful very short looping ft modfile
that i absolutely love. Very brothomstates style

Aleksi Eeben's newer electronica stuff is really good, as well as Mosaik (formerly Radix), Workbench, Xerxes, and mostly everyone from the Kahvi Collective netlabel.

Kaneel
Psilodump (Actually not really either IDM in the way you described it, or demoscene, but worth mentioning.)
Wisp (Again, not demoscene, but definitely IDM, and I think you might enjoy it.)

Jesus Christ ? No idea, he's kinda dead wink

as for the black dog: I read it in a rinted interview,
he used to make his own little demos with the occasional
tune, as well as running a black dog BBS. Havent found anything
yet, no idea under what handle, or if it's surfaced at all.
Any leads to
where to find anything would be largely appreaciated.
