Okay, so, I was watching Reformat the Planet (for like, the 100th time) and this bit with Hally playing at blip came on. It's at around 9:30 in this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p7pwsfA

I can't seem to figure out what's going on here... I mean, I can see two famicoms there, but the sound is nothing like a famicom! There's FM stuff going on for sure... So, yeah, can anyone please enlighten me as to what's going on?! I'm so curious...
we have the technology
we have the technology
So, you'd have to use an eprom in a VRC7 equipped cart to do that? How does one even find one of those carts?!

might not exist, could have been self/custom-built?
YouTube's giving me a "This video is not available in your country" message, so in the True Spirit Of The Internet, I thought I'd contribute some careless speculation on something I haven't directly seen and don't know anything about. So as a shot in the dark — I know that at least one of his Blip NYC performances, Hally had on-hand a 1chipMSX, and while I don't remember which songs he'd used it on, if you're hearing FM sounds in one of his Blip performance videos it may have been that.

I am pretty sure he is using these http://www2s.biglobe.ne.jp/~tns/tnshfc2.html
It might be one model earlier? TNS-HFC1? They are basically impossible to get hold of outside of Japan and they are pretty out of date, there have been 2 or 3 updates since then. There is, or at least was, a kind of expansion board which lets you connect extra carts with expansion chips
Its pretty conspicuous and I couldnt see it in the video. Also I don' think I have ever seen him use one live and (I dont think I saw him live until about 2008 though) I have been lucky enough to see him a few times. He usually just uses the famicom sound chip with very creative use of samples and a vocoder sometimes for vocal.
I can confirm that at Blip 2006, Hally did indeed have the aforementioned 1chipMSX on stage with him.
I can also confirm that none of his NSFs from his Blip 2006 set use any expansion chips.
Therefore, one could definitely infer that it was indeed the 1chipMSX spitting the FM.
As for the FM part, Hally was playing one of Naruto's tunes using the 1chipMSX. The tune in question is Cream Soda 3, on this page: http://www.rootnyanplus.com/user/naruto/chiptune.html
Ah, thank you so much guys!! I didn't think it was the famicom... haha Looks interesting, although I might just stick with the Mega Drive for FM sounds...
