Lol I remember the Jose vs. everyone else bull-honkey.
Threatening to sue people tends to make you a pariah yea.

What about to redesign this forum to 8bit collective, this should be cool.
Honestly I've heard a lot of people are turned away from cm.o by sort of an "old-head gatekeeper" vibe from a lot of members, so I stopped posting to try to help with that.
edit: Also just deleted a four year old post with a homophobic slur and a mod quoting it and saying "careful" instead of deleting it, so I totally get why people don't feel super welcome here
Gatekeeper here? I didn't noticed any, i think forums are slowly dying or they shrinked to a few active people, for example also famous Kurzweil forum Sonikmatter.com was canceled, or in my territory audiozone.cz have now probably 20 active people from some thousands. Probably youtube, discord, fb and reddit now rule the world.

What they don't know is that most people viewed as gatekeepers in this scene (a) haven't really got much power & (b) lots of them (us? Am I seen as a gatekeeper?) are a little socially awkward so it's easy to think they might not like new people, but that's just because they aren't always comfortable talking to new people
That can make things seem like those of us who know each other are trying to keep new people outside the group, but it's not intentional (unless we're excluding rapists. That's intentional)

Can you PM me the link to the post with the quoted slur (or report it) so I can get rid of that?
My preference has always been to "delete" (we have a staff-only section for "deleted" stuff) the whole post if there's a slur, those post rarely have useful information to worry about losing, just people being asshats
Edit: had no idea you were staff now too, Nigel lol
The most ive learned recently about old style modding and things I do today is proactively announcing inclusion rules and such up front. Cmo was created as a reaction to 8bc so I think many of the founders assumed that people would feel more welcomed here, but in hindsight didn't do enough to advertise the philosophy of that in the onboarding and moderation aspects, so people are assuming ill intent. Its ironic that people instead went to chipwin, which turned out to be way worse IMO, but hopefully new attempts at community can learn and build from this.
A relaunch of CMO with these guidelines might be useful to convey this, but perhaps the ship has already sailed on the brand.
Here is the CoC we drafted over for the M8 discord, I would love to see a similar initiative over here:

Surely it's good that people feel comfortable enough to post their music on any site though? It's nice to not feel the need to put a bunch of context up with tracks or lump chipmusic together in one place, regardless of style or genre within it. It's just on music sites like anything else now.
