I just came on to ask a question very similar to this. The difference in my case is that I have never done any kind of electronic work in my life so there's no way I'm going to try soldering anything on my only working C64. So what are the alternatives?

Mine has Serial, Video and RF ports. Can I use one of these and seperate the video and audio signals?
Mines a PAL C64 by the way, if that makes any difference to the available outputs.

I have a similar problem, i have a show coming up soon and im wanting to find the best way to plug my c64 up to my mixer to play cynthcart. Is there simply a cord i can buy for this?

the best way is to pick audio from the DIN plug

soldering is rather simple but I think you an even find solderless plugs in pecialised shops

No, that won't work.  That's 5 pin din for old hifi equipment from the 70's / 80's.... you need an 8 pin DIN socket which splits to Composite, Y/C (hint, solder this to an SVideo socket for amazing pictures!!) and your audio :-)

Just a note that C64's are VERY sensitive to having their cables shorted out.  NEVER hotplug a C64 with the power turned on and ALWAYS be very careful that you plug it into a mixer with the power turned off.  I've blown up 2 SID chips now - first was from the one time I hot plugged it, and the other was using my 8xxx series SID with a valve preamp.  Apparently there was some back voltage though the pre when the power was turned on (and that's an Avalon unit too)

I also purchased some days ago Commodore 64 (version G, which was primarily for German market with game cartridge), with 1541-II disk drive. It looks like new, SID chip is 8580. But it was without RF TV cable, i found it today in local store. Video out is 8-PIN DIN connector, which is hard to find in local electroshops. In one shop i purchased DIN 5-PIN cable to 4x CINCH, according to this legend http://old.pinouts.ru/Multimedia/AudioV … nout.shtml is AUDIO OUT yellow cinch, but when i plugged that yellow cinch to my hifi system i noticed some hum. I can hear sound, but quality is not very good. Anyone can help me with this?

BTW, what is AUDIO IN signal?

This is kind of old, but i'm planning to mod my c64c for use with mssiah. I'd like to protect the sid's ouputs and inputs.
I know, people have successfully installed low-gain's NESmod, but i can't shell out 45 bucks + shipping to europe anytime in the near future. So i'm looking for diy alternatives.

Would a vanilla unity gain buffer along the lines of this (the first opamp buffer) be sufficient to protect the sid? And can i use the same configuration for the audio input?

any hints would be appreciated!

Did you build the buffer on perfboard/Vero board? How did you get the 4.5v to the input pin?
