I don't have any musical knowledge at all, but I've been listening to some chiptunes and watching some tutorials for different trackers. Does anyone know of any good Atari 2600 trackers for complete beginners? I like the sound of the console a lot. Thanks.
I don't know about trackers designed for the 2600, but there is the synthcart. Also, this video may be relevant to you.
ctrix made a sort of patcher, that convert .it modules into .bin 2600 files.
but I don't know when he's gonna release that for the public.
There is also Paul Slocums loopcart and sequencer kit. You can also make and load custom loops for synthcart. I would love to see more 26K music!
C-trix sollution is a cool one. pretty beta, but it works.
I did make a song once in Paul Slocums sequencer kit. It's a lot of fun, but not really user friendly. Most of the time you spend on making small changes, compile it, have a listen, edit other small things, compile again, and see if it changed
Ctrix tracker is basically a skin around Paul's sequencer kit to make it all a bit more workable.
chipsounds has a really nice collection of atari waveforms as well.. including synthcart patterns.

THIS.
Thanks guys, but I am looking for an actual software like MilkyTracker or FT. I don't want to buy anything extra, like the Atari cart Faerlight mentioned. Something where you don't have to mod any consoles. Just something you can easily download. I don't know if there is anything like this, as I've noticed there really aren't as many Atari trackers as the NES or GB.

and toss inside milkytracker. I'll be good to go.

&p=101 (synthcart cartridge)

&p=930 (external MIDI2600)
i know its not what you mean, but with the above (cart + MIDI control) you could use an external device and have a lot more control over the machine than trying to do this via a cart only. just sequence via MIDI, good software with full midi support shold allow you to pretty much whatever you'd like (well, whatever synthcart will allow, if not limited just by the atari tech).
there just isn't the level of support for the console in music making to have demanded full-on tracking on the system like you're talking about. soooo less atari music makers than there are people using nintendo stuff.
even if you use a PC/whatever tracker and create tunes for a 2600 on this, you're still faced with the whole EPROM cart burning and playback on a console bit...
not totally unrelated, but if you pick up stuff from atariage, there is this too: http://www.atariage.com/store/index.php &p=285 (features the 2600 in the music, but also its a CLASSIC album... Tree Wave's Cabana EP)
Also, little-scale's MIDI interface! Where 'dat at?
also you might be surprised how UNMUSICAL the atari chip is. You should play with synthcart in an emulator just to see how difficult writing a song with one can be. I see it as more of a gnarly beat box.
