Star Coasting

Genesis style track made for a retro shoot-em-up currently in production. This track is still in progress, so any suggestions on evoking that 16bit shoot-em-up feel are especially welcome.

Ha, thanks Russolo! I'm kind of still getting my bearing on composing with Genesis sounds. Yeah, I recently played Gradius III and noticed how fast all of the music is; I'm either going to radically change this piece or scrap it, all depending on how busy the actual stage is. Either way thanks for the comment, I appreciate it!

I like the song itself but I don't know how well it would fit into the game.  I just can't see this in some sort of shooting game.  This would fit though if this first level doesn't have alot going on.  Thumbs up though for the genesis sounds

You're right about the down-pitched sample, and I did try to move it up an octave but the bass lacked bottom end; Your suggestion to double it with a sine wave is a very simple solution that I didn't even consider! It may well solve that problem! And yeah, the other tracks I'm making are a bit faster, but this is meant for the first stage so it's a little less intense. Thanks for the detailed comment!

well you might want to try giving the sound of the bassline a few tweaks. many 16bit games have this certain flat, midi-ish type of bass sound. the bass here sounds a bit like a sample that has been pitched too low. try pitching it up by 1 octave and then use some simple in-the-background sine wave to fill the lower frequencies. if regular pitching doesn't work then try to change the pitch of this sound without timeshift in audacity.
also it could be a wee faster for a shoot-em-up (well, depending on how fast the game actually is of course).
other than that, i like it, has a great, slightly trashy melody.
