I received a message yesterday, and since I opened it, I've had a message indicator bubble claiming (!) NEW messages. Nothing new in inbox or outbox.

Hah, indeed. Deleting some messages fixed it.
That being said, I wish there was an easier way to delete the bulk of your inbox. I'd really like to delete all but, say, the first page.
