I want my drum samples that sound crisp, clear and loud sound more like the ones you could hear on NES.
I'm using renoise tracker by the way.

Any suggestions?

You could use drums sampled from the NES, I think bucky posted a massive pack of DPCM drums on 8bc a while ago.

EDIT: found it - http://www.hotdogstorm.com/bucky/sample … _11_08.zip

You could make your own DPCM samples with famitracker/s3m2nsf/it2nsf/dmconv and then turn them back into wav. smile

The best way would be to convert to DPCM and back to PCM. I use GNU Octave for that, but it's a little involved if you've never used it or Matlab before.

For an approximation, low-pass filter everything (cut out the high frequencies) and then add a *little* bit of distortion to simulate slope overload. Make the low-pass filter 6dB/oct if you have a choice.

D16 Group's Decimort plugin is great for that type of effect too (but expensive).
