I don't plan on listening to any, I'd just like to know what I should be listening to. ~What the cool kids like~

Bandcamp recommended release pages?
???

btw what happened to Megabeep? (I'm not allowed to bump this http://chipmusic.org/forums/topic/5536/ … te/page/2/ but a compilation was imminent a year ago and quietly forgotten).

To sum up the point of this thread, it would be "chiptune stop making it hard to find the things i might like. unless you're not and i'm just not looking in the right places. in which case sorry but tell me where they are. thanks"

thanks

well, you should probably just read this thread, since people were already putting their favorite releases of 2012 in there

ah thanks. I did plan on checking lists but was wondering what to do regularly over a year, without being 100% involved in the community. Is there a way to stalk the likes of my idols / people with my sort of tastes (kind of thing)

(serious question raised incoherently)

megabeep guy just totally vanished into thin air, never to be heard from by anybody again. i had high hopes for what he had in mind but who knows. best way to hear about most of the best chiptune releases is to hit up some of the various irc channels on espernet, #mod_shrine #areciboradio #botb #chipmusic etc.

They thought of that, you can add multiple emails to your fan account.

Yeah, I was kindof sad about Megabeep John.  I think he might have been expecting the site to "take off"

last i heard from him, he had some computer probs, and then he was gone. maybe real life took over with that and he decided it would be too much of a pain.

from what i can tell all the cool kids like anamannannaguchi but if you dont plan on listening to any, maybe you could just watch their videos with the sound turned down?

listening to music once is ok if it's good music i suppose

yeah it's a shame, mr beep announced the release of an all-star comp in a week's time then had fatal computer death or something. I was just drifting away when that blog started up, otherwise I would've been more appreciative of the work he was doing. but it ain't all on me, baby

I suppose I'm missing what that old website had... the one with the poker ads. The weekly chart thing was crap but being able to lurk everyone's likes was handy. I suppose Soundcloud has a similar sort of thing going on? Should probably use that more.

I was asking for myself but also wondering for casual fans in general, who IRC might be a bit "involved" for. I've got accounts on dozens of websites and find I've been socialising on practically none of them these days, so tend to stick to wherever's lurker-friendly.

anamangamuni are good! I listened to them and was cool but it's wearing off. i like a bunch of different stuff (vgm to bitgrind, progtronica, chipbreak, chIDM, glitch funk and microrock, and a bit of dunce) and follow the same musicians i used to, it's just getting like I'm not finding much new blood dropping in my lap. I haven't got the energy to blindly explore like i used to you know?

someone should tell all the good musicians to make one big amazing compilation to promote themselves to me

thanks for the knowledge all

Search for chiptunes = win (a compilation) and press lurk more.

you can still lurk irc, you're not expected to speak. i feel like irc is a good place to pick up on stuff because its where people are usually talking about things they're currently listening to, a lot of the time you get a good idea of either the really good stuff, or the stuff that slips through the cracks thats unforgettable. without irc, i dont know if i would have found half the stuff i did, and just the same i dont know if i would be able to share as much stuff either.

luckily no one is releasing anything in 2013 so you'll have all year to catch up
