It honestly never even occurred to me that there would be one but it looks like there have been a few interesting NES productions
they seem a little hard to come by though. Does anyone have any more? Any classic NES demos out there?

Not a production but a nice little graphical trick
Does make a NES flyer count? if does... btw they aren't any classic, but they have about 4 years now or so.
Miau and Me
These are freaking great; I too have never seen a NES demo before.
Try looking somewhere other than youtube? I know there are some roms floating around somewhere... I don't know if anybody posted it since I have flash disabled, but there is an NES demo "greeting card/invitation" from which Chibitech's Moe Moe Kyunstep Part I originated. I'm pretty sure the rom I downloaded was posted here once upon a time.
Edit: But I guess that wouldn't really count as a technical demo?

Yeah, it's pretty dry: http://pouet.net/prodlist.php?platform%
amp;order=
I think part of the reason is that it's time-consuming to access the video RAM, so it's difficult to do generative graphical effects. That's why you're seeing a recurring theme starfields and macro-pixels. Timing raster effects is also difficult because there's no raster (per-line) interrupt, so you have to either busy-wait or abuse the DMC (sample playback) interrupt which iirc is not accurate enough to hit every line perfectly. Apart from that, the C64's video hardware is more interestnig for demo effects and it was already out before the NES. It might also be that people didn't feel like bothering with the NES back in the '80s/'90s because of the copy protection, and because NES was seen as simply a game console and not a computer.
It's hard enough just displaying text on your GUI in a timely fashion, let alone any fancy graphic effects
Hats off to those that try though!
LOL @ obligatory pixel porn!
@UI that second video is AMAZING!
And a general comment, at the "wiggly / stretchy" effects being done on Nametables? I assume they must be at that one in the third video I poster must have more than 64 tiles. Also is the effect being done by writing the same scanline multiple times to give the effect of "stretching" the grpahic?
uhhh vegavox ii anyone? seriously?
Yeah, Don (nocarrier) has made all kinds of sweet-ass shit.

finally, thank you. felt like i was going mad, no one was mentioning him.
btw, wassup fellow alaskan i'm down in homer.
Does anyone have a working ROM of High Hopes? The one on Pouet doesn't seem to run in any emulator I've tried.
Edit: nevermind. The header incorrectly specifies NTSC instead of PAL. If I manually override the emulator to PAL it works fine. Kinda disappointed by how the roto-zoom was implemented (it's just a page-flip animation).
