Edit: the settings youve described are exactly what I did on my recent noise album, I even included a pdf in the download thats very similar to your write up, for once I was ahead of you on something!  wink

I used the dual drone technique for a few years, for example at blip 2011:

It wasnt until the whole click thing was resolved (thanks nitro) that it made sense to look at single cycle waveforms.

What ive really wanted to know is precisely what the values in the dist field refer to. I wrote Johan but no response yet.

I think they are corrupting the data read at various memory addresses as the sample is read in memory:
