Just browsing over on nesdev and saw this topic http://forums.nesdev.com/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=9522. Doesn't look like there's any documentation on it currently but if his demo video isn't fake it seems pretty awesome.

Just wanting to make people aware of this and see if there's any opinions on using it or it's functionality.

Here's a link straight to the project with his demo video. http://gutomaia.net/pyNES/

Whoa, that's cool. I really hope it's not fake.

It almost feels unfair for this to be real.

Offline

it seems to be real

but also not updated for 4 months & with no documentation

and writing "python code" that looks like

...
wait_vblank()
clearmem()
wait_vblank()
load_palette(palette)
load_sprite(sprite, 0)
...

is not really much different to using a macro assembler

it seems cool but also unfinished :-(

This is pretty rad. Now picking Python to learn coding seems like the right move.

Looks pretty real although not updated for a good while.

According to the thread that's linked he is still working on it (as of 11/11/13) and updated the binaries for Mac use now.

Damn that's pretty sick / slick.  Sometimes these types of compilers have issues...  I know there's some really buggy stuff like this for the Genesis - NES gets all the love.  Is this only for Mac?

Well if its just a python library I don't see how it could be.
I hear you though, it would be great if the pier solar guys would release their Dev stuff.

On an unrelated note (not sure if I should make another thread) did you guys hear that final fantasy 7 got down ported to the nes?

seems cool, but real annoying there's no documentation in the repo

Did it get an English version? I'm only aware of the Chinese version.

As far as documentation goes, has anyone just inspected the actual library itself? Do comments exist?

For FFVII, it looks like they further refined the Chinese version to actually reflect the original game. Below are links to the article as well as an early demo video:
