What kind of methods do you use to create microtonal (non 12tet) scales and music in the various chiptune formats of your choice, be it LSDJ, nsf, .it, ahx, sid, adlib, etc?

This is an interesting thing to talk about in regards to chipmusic I think. Only thing I know of is that .it microtonal thingy.

I've used MIDINES in the past for this kinda thing. Easy(ish) to do with a DAW.

Well, sandneil created a script to generate impulse tracker instrument with non-standard tuning: http://chipmusic.org/forums/topic/12353 … 00-scales/

Just use POKEY or VIC-20 and you don't have to worry about it smile

I made a music tool for C64 and since the range of the index registers is 8-bit, instead of doing half tones 0-255 (twice the midi range!) I decided to do quarter tones. Full MIDI range, twice the precision!

You can get some microtones quite easily with the Houston Tracker for TI-82.

Oh yeah! I forgot about that. I need to get a cable for my TI-83+ pronto

wait, so using detune in lsdj doesn't make this effect? It seems subtle enough to me.

Any song examples of this? It sounds interesting.

Edit: Just heard that .it song by sandneil. It's weird but kinda interesting.

PR8 has coarse and fine tuning per drum.

open modplug tracker has scala support just built right in if you want to do it the easy way

It's hardly the best way, but if I want to achieve this effect I just do a really quick portamento at the beginning of a note. For a small enough shift it's mostly unnoticeable.

You can use detune commands in Fami, I think. Usually used for doubling a non-detuned lead for that chorusy mega man lead vibe but you could probably get something more in depth with the time put in.
