OH where would we ever find a MASTER CLOCK DEVICE FOR GAMEBOYS?
nonono, its not for the sync/clock. its for the crystal oscillator. totally won't work for this
edit -- updated the description, realized it was very confusing

ohhhhhhhhh
Either way, I don't get why I don't see hella people using quints all the time, they seem rad... but I've never had a use for one myself so I guess that answers the question?
Ya know, if I went the modding route instead of programming all it would take is a little breakout box that gives me a shared start button for two gameboys. Could probably rig it up with an actual crossfader (like with button contacts at each end) for maximum wankitude.
EDIT: Has anybody developed simple button breakout pads yet? Like a little membrane that sits between the button pad and the pcb and has two wires coming out of it that you can link to a button at some other location of your choice.

you could just follow the traces back to a solder point, or all the way back to the diode arrays if you needed
check the schematic for the start button's two points, would be as easy as hooking up the switch of your choice at this point. a tact/pushbutton, you could even use the silicone buttons themselves and fashion a button from something (or etch your own with the stuff from ratshack), or just take a broken front PCB and dremel off the start/select part so you could just recycle that part,
you could even use one of the 'common ground' pcbs, and dremel it however you needed. if its just for the one button, you've got two contact points right there. bam
would be much easier than fashioning a new part
edit -- i like your crossfader with two tact switch idea
Oh man, that common ground pcb is just the ticket for a breakout like I'm picturing! I believe I will have to try it out.
