Space - The Final Frontier

I wasn't sure where to post this so sorry if this is completely in the wrong forum...

I'm currently trying to build myself a good sample library to use for making songs in Milkytracker, but there's so much stuff that I just feel a little bit overwhelmed. Anyway, I'm searching for samples that sound similar to the synths used in the late 80s/early 90s Turbografx versions of Falcom's Ys games.
Since I'm pretty sure that most of you have never heard of them, here are a few links:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ks2BrsBNy10 (I'm most interested in the guitar at 1:30 and especially the lead synth at 1:42)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0XRtCbOSIC8

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_TgoTm0fXBM
I suppose whoever made those songs probably used some old keyboard common back then? Unfortunately, I'm not particularly knowledgeable about this stuff sad
However, I did do a google search on "old keyboard synths" but....well, I wasn't able to find what I wanted.
Maybe someone knows some samples similar to those I'm looking for? Or even if you could just point out what exactly I need to search for (something like for example "samples Synthesizer XY"), I would greatly appreciate that smile
Thanks for reading!

Hit up higher quality soundfont sample libs and export the samples, like:

For the first video you posted, the synth at 1:42 sounds A LOT like the synth that comes in at 0:58 in this old tracker tune:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FHgawgeTbBc

You can download the module here:

http://modarchive.org/index.php?request … uery=70716

And then open it up in MilkyTracker and save that particular sample to your computer. Maybe if you do some research about that particular module you can figure out what synth it is that makes that sound. It's gotta be some commercially popular one from the late 80's, early 90's. My guess is a Roland D-50 preset.

The guitar sounds way too natural to be just a few samples, sounds more like most of the leads were played live, maybe I'm wrong though as that would take a lot of memory.

Also, the song itself sounds EXACTLY like this Yngwie Malmsteen song called "Far Beyond The Sun":

It's obviously a tribute or something. Yngwie was probably pretty popular in Japan at the time the Ys games were coming out.

Thanks for your fast replies!

@Vaina Moinen
That synth in the module sounds exactly like the sound I want, thank you big_smile
Now I finally know where to start my research (and BTW it's a really cool song!)

Yeah, I already was aware that they sound pretty much the same (and Ys version sometimes just downright copies complete parts), but nevertheless I'm more fond of "A Great Ordeal" because of that part at 1:42, which is IMO the best part of the song.

@herr_prof
I will look into that, however I was unable to open the .zip you posted with 7-zip.
