usb 64m Smart Card + Windows 8 - Need a Solution

I was hoping to avoid that, but I think it might be what I end up doing

I struggled to install them on Windows 7 (it's weird I can't even boot in test mode, I dunno) and a Virtual Machine was the simplest solution, by far.

I haven't had any problems on windows 8 yet. I have loaded roms and transferred sav files.

Thank you Zetetica, the link you provided restores my confidence that these nasty little driver issues really do have a potential easy work around. Before posting this question there was a series of things I'd tried that ultimately lead me to the altered beast consolidation of the Smart Card's stock instructions  and what seems to Zetetica's Un-Signed 3rd Party Driver in Windows 8 link that is seen below. As sure as I was that it was going to work.....it did not! I have yet to try these steps again simple because of the hideous amount of system restarts. Here is what I did, can anyone see what I may have done wrong, or is this correct and I innocently screwed up somewhere along the way?
(I believe I found most of this in an obscure youtube comment somewhere that I can't seem to locate)

01) Change the user account control settings to -> never notify
02) Restart your computer
03) Disable anti virus software
04) Download all the downloads in the desctription

05) Place them in a folder on the desktop and then open dseo13b as an administrator and change the mode to test mode
06) Restart your computer
07) Sign the file EMSLINK_amd64.sys
08) Restart your computer
09) Sign the file EMSLINK_i386.sys
10) Restart your computer
11) Sign the file EMSLINK_ia64.sys
12) Restart your computer

13) Connect your GB USB 64M smart card to your PC using the mini b to usb cable.
14) Open control panel -> device manager then find unknown device underneath other devices and click update driver software
15) Click browse my computer for driver software
16) Choose the folder where you signed all the .sys files
17) Then click install the driver software anyway.
18) Now the Smart Cart's USB program should work!

1) You must disable "Safe Boot" if it is enabled (so you can run in test mode). This done in the bios (UEFI). You can access when the computer starts or by following these steps (it depends on the model of your computer):
    -Search "bios" on the right menu, and select "Change advanced start-up options" in Settings. Then select "Restart" under "Advanced startup".
    - When it restarts, select Troubleshoot->UEFI and select restart again.
    -In the bios you can disable "Safe Boot"

2) You can now enter in "Test Mode", using the program does not work - use steps from "Enable/Disable Windows 8 Test Mode" shown below

3) Install the .sys files as told in the video.

4) After installing the last one, you must enable the installation of non-signed drivers. For that, access the "Advanced startup" menu again and select Troubleshoot->Advanced options->Windows startup options And restart again. On the new menu press "7" (to choose the 7th option). After booting up the computer again, you can open the Device Manager on Control Panel and follow the video

Step 1: Open Command Prompt   [Run as Administrator]
Step 2: Use the following:
         bcdedit -set TESTSIGNING ON + Enter   [or OFF to disable]
Step 3: Restart and you are Done
