a nice chill listen - I'd dig some more tonal components and/or some larger structure / morphology to the individual tracks but it's pretty
Glad you kind of enjoyed it. I have intentionally avoided the elements that you are describing and am prefering to to focus on subtle details in rhythm. Ive been listening to a lot of Gábor Lázár (https://soundcloud.com/gaborlazar) kind of stuff recently. I think its good to break away from the pop/chipmusic cliches once in a while and let the machines and the universe do the talking. I have very little to with the final outcome. The amiga controls me rather than the amiga being my bitch.

I should clarify - i am not out of sympathy with your aims nor unfamiliar with the type of music you're interested in making, and when i mention tonal and structural elements it's not because i think this should sound more like pop or chiptune or what have you but just because this kind of music is, imo, more interesting when it's more dynamic than this. If you disagree, cool; you gotta make music that satisfies you first & foremost.
also, "pretty" is not intended as a backhanded compliment, i think pretty is good. Sorry if i sounded dismissive & peace to you.
No worrys i was not taking offence, more just trying to provide the context of the music. I have done stuff that perhaps has these more dynamic elements (http://alonetone.com/jossmanley/playlists/amiga-dispair) and some stuff that has far less of them. I like to bounce between the complex and the almost nonexistanly minimal and this is caught somwhere inbetween. Lets just say this is part of a process of deconstruction and reconstruction. Also i should mention that these are 100% improvised. No elements were specificly placed. Kind of like creating a living breathing entity that just does its own thing. Peace indeed.

Good philosophy. I'd love to see more chip shows dedicated to the more abstract stuff, current chip shows/festivals are more dance focused (which is definitely something I also enjoy) which means we never really get to play minimalist/ambient/improvised music.

Cool, I'm glad someone else in the chip scene is into extreme minimalism. I'll give this a listen!
oooooh this is very different and original. I like it! lookin forward to more stuff by you!

Yeah, I'm really into this. It's like a lo-fi version of the super glitchy stuff on Raster Noton, which is great because the super clean audiophile quality of artists like Ryoji Ikeda kinda gets to me after a while. It's making me want to get into Protracker stuff again. I should dust off that old G3 iMac and put a Protracker clone on it..
I listen to shitloads of raster noton like stuff and although i love it i agree that somtimes its seems far too clean. I'm currently binge listening to Mark Fell at the moment. that dude is awsome.
Nice! I haven't heard much of his solo stuff but I love SND.
Someone on another forum said that Mark Fell's solo work sounds like Sonic repeatedly hitting the pinball bumpers in Carnival Night Zone, I kinda agree but don't necessarily think it's a bad thing
Yeah SND rule. Some of his stuff is definatley a bit 'special' and you have to be in the right zone for your brain to absorb it. Some of it is far more dancable like 'Sentielle Objectif Actualité'. Really loving his 'Sensate Focus' EPs as well. Really cheesey but phat.

Speaking of SND
fuck yeah, I would have been losing my shit at that gig, instead of just standing around looking bored like most of the people there.
Someone needs to bring this style to the live chip scene!
Aye its amazingly phat. I think it can make people feel a bit awkward and uncomfortable without a regular 4/4 and 3/3 rhythm. Don't me wrong i love a lot of techno and stuff. I just think the 'wierdness' needs more love on the chipscene. It seems more than a little safe at times.
Definitely. You've certainly inspired me (along with other chip musicians like abandoned on fire, biographs, the mist toggles etc) to start getting a bit weirder with my chip sound design/arrangements. I was previously trying to come up with constant bangers, and while I still like using a techno beat, I've realised that there's already a lot of amazing chip tech/house stuff out there, and I should try to do my own thing
Anyway, back on track, great album!
awesome cool release, and glad to see discussion of SND; some great links here in this thread!
JM, where about in the UK are you? Could you tell us a little more about the tools / processes used to make
§ / section? How the hell is one meant to say your artist name? "3 rectangles of prgressively dense dot pattern" ?
