This little game called Shovel Knight was something that I noticed every time I searched for chiptune/8bit music on various social media sites. I decided to give the game a try and... It is amazing! It's an NES-style platformer that is actually not that difficult. It combines elements from Mega Man, Super Mario Land, Duck Tales and Zelda II. It's very humorous. When it comes to music it's been composed by Jake Kaufman (also known for Double Dragon Neon OST) on FamiTracker. I can't stop listening to it. My all time favorite song from the game is "Strike the Earth". big_smile If you want to check out the soundtrack it is available here (you pay what you want, yes $0 is also an option): http://virt.bandcamp.com/album/shovel-k … soundtrack. I read somewhere that Jake encourages people to make covers of the songs. In fact you can already download an album of Shovel Knight's Music covers here: http://virt.bandcamp.com/album/strike-t … t-arranged.
Did you guys hear about/played the game?
Did you listen to the music and/or liked any of it?
What's your favorite song from the soundtrack?

That they are. When Nick and David were at Supercon a couple weeks ago, I was working in the Vintage Gaming room (My friend and I work with this guy who has a bunch of old systems and TVs for a mobile gaming trailer he has). When they weren't busy at the Yacht Club booth downstairs they came up and I played the NSFs for them on my Famicom. After that, they invited me to play the NSFs at their booth and gave my friend and I steam codes.

Wanted to share with fans of Jake's work on Shovel Knight about a game called Ghost Police. It's an indie non-shooting shmup that is currently on Kickstarter solely to fund Jake doing another authentic NES-era soundtrack, this time with the N163 sound chip:

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/90 … ost-police

The game is already funded and will include licensed music, but the campaign exists to bring Jake on board and perhaps meet some other stretch goals. Jake scored the trailer, showing off what the N163 will sound like. Pay special close attention to the syncing between the music and the video... it's awesome.

Enjoy, and help spread the word if you'd like to see Jake make another soundtrack in this style!

I know it's 10 years later, but if you want to check my (difficult as hell) piano arrangement of "Strike The Earth" from Shovel Knight, it's here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZS2nt-aOkv4
