Great thread Akira!

an-cat-max has bad taste, obviously.

Pretty much anyone who made chipmusic before 1998 or so is pretty unknown/under-appreciated, with a few exceptions, and people who don't release music as mp3 download albums on netlabels (not bitching, just saying smile)

Edzes, Lysander Lapine, Jammer, Linus, Iwamoo (couldn't find a good link sad), Rophon, Siril, Blz, Yaz are all fairly under-appreciated, I bet Akira's heard it all before though. tongue

Will add this thread to my favourites. big_smile

edit: links smile

They've really done up their site since last time I visted! Very pretty now. I recommend everything there by Wang-Zhi, that guy/girl is great.

Agree with Akira's shout for Motone, his grasp of texture is incredible.

Lazerbeat, thanks for the heads up on n1k-o. It's amazing. NNNNNNN was too much pikopiko for me.

I have heard the others. Let's make it a challenge, show me something I don't know and it's cool big_smile

What exactly does pikopiko mean? Certainly not this:

Something like "blip blop".

To contribute to the topic,

everyone should check out Makko, a finish composer who made Fasttracker 2 modules a couple of years before and after the millennium. He was a member of Tequila (with Zalza, Nagz, Dalezy etc). Exceptionally good stuff! Jazzy, funky, with a lot of finesse, feeling and attitude. Been one of my very top favourite chiptune composers for many years.

Most of his .XMs (which unfortunately are not that many) can be found on the Modland FTP.

esc is underrated, IMO. Whilst he does play the odd gig, considering he always has a high quality output (and quite high output too!) he's not as respected as he should be.

Also, tenfold should get some more respect, I'd love to see a full live set by him one day!

Japanese uses lots of onomateopea (sp?) with repeated two syllable words. Picopico means in common parlance something like "twinkle twinkle" or "bleepy bleepy" but it kind of found its way into Japanese subculture as a word describing chip music. USK has an ep called "piko piko disco" which is pretty awesome.

Anyway, back on topic.

Shared stage with him many times and he's the better lsdj artist in the whole Italy.

I totally agree. His game boy sets are furious.

God damn, Waxinwary and Downstate are AWESOME, thanks Beware!
I pretty much like almost everything recommended. Keep it up.
I also got to mention Disassembler's scary fixation with Nanoloop. Nevertheless, SHITSTREAM by Starmelt was an awesome track big_smile

Remember, surprise this grumpy old sod (Saskrotch, don't post your netlabel tongue)

also, zolotov is awesome, he's mostly an analogue synth guy but his gameboy release blows my mind: http://errorcode.gr/?p=101
