Are there any good ST emulators? That's always an option.

there's a good ST emulator but I don't know if it'd be able to do anything special it would need to do to hook up to the FB01

Steem has midi capability so possibly hatari does too?
also wedanced, get it! editing can be a pain but I love mine
Id like a second and this radical rack unit ....
i have seen some people doing the editing on ST emulators in windows i am not sure about mac tho. the editors look useable. i stumbled upon a forum thread where they were beta testing a mac instrument editor but the link is dead it was called 4OPForAll.
http://www.macosxaudio.com/forums/viewt mp;t=11237
also this http://homepage.mac.com/synth_seal/html/fb01b.html i cant find the exact editor tho.
there is a list of editors he made using emagic soundriver. http://homepage.mac.com/synth_seal/html/sounddiver.html
it apparently can work for the fb-01

Massive necro-bump but I figured I would post this here. I picked up a FB-01 a couple weeks ago and thoroughly enjoy it for basslines. I also found this website contained a massive amount of useful patch banks.
cool, i ordered one the other day.. just waiting for it and a few other things to arrive...

I picked mine up from a pawn shop for $60. They had two in the dual rack mount case but I opted to just pick up the one unit and see how I like it...now I'm debating going back and picking up the other one. I'm not sure how useful it will be since these things can handle eight instruments playing monophonically but we'll see.
I'm in no rush though. I live in a small town and I know nobody here other than myself will be buying it anytime soon.

Picked mine up for like £30 a few years ago.Editing can be a complete nightmare, even with the editor. If you use Midiyoke you can set yourself up to edit in real time in ableton. Nightmare though, the editor doesn't seem to like windows 8.
That said, this thing definitely has the coolest bass presets ever!
EDIT:
Here's a WIP I've been doing recently using the FB01 for the bass.

Admittedly I haven't crafted my own patches with this thing yet, I've just been sifting through this endless sea of banks I found on that site I posted about. I'm hoping to either find or make some more "synthy" type instruments. It seems like the majority of these are the FB-01 imitating real life instruments.

It's a weird side effect of that period in synth development. People generally agreed the point of a synth was to imitate acoustic instruments in order to make recording them unnecessary. Most synths suck at that, but they tried anyway. It wasn't until every one had given up on synths and ditched them that a new generation came in and started making them actually sound like synths.
If you can get your head around the general principals of FM synthesis you can definitely get some cool sounds out of it. It wont be as flexible as a modern FM VST like FM8, but the hardware aspect gives it some nice artefaction and chunk.

Oh nice! Ive been waiting to pull the trigger on one of these because i didnt want to be stuck trying to find an editor
I'll warn that saving your patches to the FB01 itself has been a real issue for me. I've got mine saved to my hardrive and load them up when I've got it connected.
Cant you save patches in the editor though? Computers kind of a big part of my set-up, if i could send some sysex messages to recall my patches i would be golden

Yeah that's possible.

Mine saves info just fine. I would imagine that you either need to flip the switch on the back of the FB-01 to enable the battery for saving. If that doesn't work you might have to open it up and replace the battery. That's my amateur opinion.
Does anyone know if it's possible to pick and choose voices from various banks and compile your own in an editor? I think it's possible on the unit itself but navigation with these things is painstaking at best.

agreed, sounds like either the switch is flipped or your battery is dead.. if its dead, you may want to mount a battery socket instead of just using a solder tabbed battery, itll make it easier when you have to replace it again in 5 years or whatever
