What the hell.  I'm almost disappointed that the smurfs don't have the worst game music ever.  But man, youre right...the latter half is really fucking groovy.

Perhaps off topic, but does any one know if there's a collection of Alberto Gonzalez songs out there for his NES soundtracks? I know there was a big .gbs file out there for all his Game Boy soundtracks.

I think the latter half is playing too fast (PAL -> NTSC). But yeah, that's probably my favorite NES song of his... smile

For the NES he only did two soundtracks so it's easy enough to find everything he did- Asterix and The Smurfs. I've tagged NSFEs for both of them as well. smile

I've also worked up an organized collection of basically everything Alberto Gonzalez has done (nsfs, vgms, spcs, zx files, etc.). If you're interested send me a PM! He's also recently been posting on nesdev if you wanna see cool stuff like examples of source code, showing how he wrote his music.

I also think there's something to be said for the music in some of the black box games like Gyromite (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f1YmeZs91bs) and Wrecking Crew. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AUiULTsSHqo). Simple, yes, but catchy with a ton of replay value.

And though it's not an unfamiliar one, I have to also throw my support behind the Kirby's Adventure soundtrack. Let me start out by saying that Kirby's Adventure is my favorite video game on any console, ever. Whoa, yeah. The music plays a big role in that choice. I love how the instrument vocabulary really carries through the Gameboy, NES, and SNES Kirby soundtracks (and then later even to the GBA and DS Kirby games). I remember having the hardest time with that freaking game when I was a kid, but that music from the first level made me not really mind that I was getting rip-shit-rioted by 8 crocodiles and a guy in a pink jumpsuit.

Awesome picks, party time! Those are my favorite MC Kids and Bayou Billy tracks. Journey to Silius is packed with killer songs and Gryomite has some of my favorite black-box music. The instruments in Gyromite are so simple but great.

I would also count Rescue: The Embassy Mission (aka Hostages) on Alberto's NES list. I know he didn't physically do the music for that particular version, but it is directly based off of his compositions he did for the original Spectrum/Amstrad/MSX versions of the game. And the NES versions are the best versions, if you ask me.
