i'm really getting into VGM Music Maker, and since way more people have genesis emulators than things that can play .vgms, why not have a place for people to post their roms for others to listen to?

VGMPLAY is a program that takes a .vgm file and changes it to a .bin that plays your song on start up. as animalstyle and shiru discussed in another thread, VGMPLAY3.00 doesn't seem to work with the .vgm's that VGM Music Maker exports, for whatever reason. you can grab 2.00 here

alright, post away y'all!

Trying to make Sonic-esque music because that is what the Megadrive was for really tongue

Ignore the first track, the second one is the important one.

I have an Everdrive and I refuse to use this method to listen to music, because I have to flash the cartridge with a BIN every time I want to hear a song.  Sucks for the Everdrive, and sucks for convenience. The Everdrive TFC player works without flashing, however, TFC files introduce a myriad of errors.

Until someone makes some format we can play directly with Everdrive, I will be skipping the platform altogether sad

you can use an emulator to listen to stuff, it doesnt have to be off the hardware!

saskrotch:  I got VGM_PLAY v3.10 to process VGMMM VGMs if I zeroed out the GD3 footer information with a hex editor.  VGM_PLAY v3.10 doesn't like the way VGMMM organizes its GD3 footer information for some reason.  I could probably pinpoint which area it doesn't like, but I'm tired at the moment. tongue

You all are also aware that Maxim's VGMPlayer for SMS can input VGMs as well, right?

That's pointless, there is a VGM player for Winamp. If I am going to emulate, converting to ROM makes no sense.

There are various reasons why you might prefer to use a ROM over using in_vgm. As the OP specifies, that is what this thread is for anyways. You can continue using only winamp for Genesis music if you'd like.

This thread is awesome! Great music guys! I need to get in on this when I get some time. Also, I guess it doesn't make that much sense to upload .bin files when you could upload .vgm files. Still won't be as big as an mp3, but then we'd have to use Winamp which some may not normally use. Personally I'd prefer .bin.

You can use foobar, or even audio overload as alternatives to winamp, am i right?
I use foobar to listen to a diverse variety of modules.

Yup! I didn't mean to make it sound like in_vgm is the only option for VGMs, but it's odd to complain about something being 'pointless' or 'making no sense' when it obviously has merits and makes perfect sense for a group of people.

"Why not have a place for people to post their roms for others to listen to?"

Exactly! This is good shit. If it's not the best method for you, you don't have to participate. Or you can request .vgms from the same composers.

Hi, sorry for the necrobump. My Sega Mega Drive everdrive (chinese version) just arrived today. It´s loading regular game roms alright, but when I tried to load a vgmplay-rom with some .vgm files, it just won´t load. Just gives me a black screen. Curiously, the same .bin file loads fine on an emulator.

Anybody here has/had this problem?

Pulselooper>Never happened to me, try to use other VGM roms from this thread or mine to check if it's your Everdrive that doesn't load it or your VGM Compiler that doesn't go well

Otherwise, my old MD Album has a VGMPlay.bin, works fine on emulator, but I should have patched it for real playing on my Euro MD1 Hardware, it plays too slow (I'd have to patch everything at 62-64ish Hz in Deflemask it's a hassle), you can get it here:

YO this thread is hella old, but I can't find deadfish shitware's vgm_play anywhere. I keep stumbling upon random copycats that let you play vgm files in command line, but nothing that changes vgm to .bin (aka the original vgm_play posted here).

Can anyone help out here?

EDIT: Literally one second after bumping this I found it. Ma bad, jeeves.
