I recently bought a MegaDrive from a market for $20.
It's in good condition, and shows no sign of damage. Cables came with it.

However it seems to only work when it wants to - which isn't very often.

When it first started up my old one, the TV would show static until you switched it on (which I'm 99.999% sure is normal).
Now whenever I switch this new one on, there isn't any static on the TV.
The screen stays black as if here is nothing connected. Audio doesn't come out either.

Is this a common problem? Can anybody help?

could just be the rf modulator is screwed up try using a rgb or svideo cable u can grab them on eBay quite cheaply ... also make sure the cart connector is clean ...

Buy a sega megadrive scart cable instead.

or

Perhaps it's the pins are not making contact with the cartridge properly e.g. Grime.

It's all working now, turns out the tuner in my main TV was broked, and now I've modev it to another TV (which works, yaaay).

However, now the audio's being tempermental. YAAAAY.

At some points on all of my games, the audio will come in late or early.
For example, when I start up my Sonic 3 cart, the "SEEEGAAA" voice comes in late and has the S chopped off.
Level music starts late, and sometimes gets cut off at the same spots.

This happens with all my games.

Any ideas?

Sell it as a "circuit bent/glitched" Mega Drive on eBay, make $$ billz, buy a working one and send me what profit you've made as a fee.
