Our latest release, Forever Ago by EvilWezil. Totally unique sounding. Chip + maniacal vocals + autoharp.

https://ptesquad.bandcamp.com/album/forever-ago

"These ancient belabored melodies have finally escaped the vault of obscurity that they have haunted for years. Woe betide the unfortunate listeners whose souls are burdened by these maddening waveforms.

This minimal effort marks the first addition of maniacal vocals and electric autoharp to EvilWezil's gameboy transmissions. No apologies or explanations were given as to why these songs sat unpublished for so long. The reasons behind his long absence and subsequent return from the void remain unknown."

III: The Mossy Album by cetera [PTE069]

FFO chip rock, Weezer, Twin Peaks, dream pop

https://ptesquad.bandcamp.com/album/iii-the-mossy-album

"This album is a boldly singular work in tribute to that soft green, leafless plant which grows like nature's carpet in damp conditions around the world. Synth rock, chiptune, bizarro dream pop, product IDs and news reports combine to bryophytic effect in a release that has to be heard to be believed."

Yes, it's only been a week since our last release, but we're on a roll here.

"In 1991, at the age of 3, Alex received his first Game Boy as a gift to keep him busy on the plane ride to see his brother. Today, 26 years later, he uses that very same DMG and three others to create Pulsing.

From Cedar Falls, Iowa, Pulsing delivers energetic 8-bit chiptune, pulling influences from EDM and punk rock to craft tight melodies and heavy bass grooves. But in the end, Pulsing is about having fun and keeping that smile on your face."

This reminds me of Disasterpeace's FEZ OST, John Carpenter and Angelo Badalamenti at times. Exquisite new release from lpower made on Caustic 3 for Android and Garageband.

https://ptesquad.bandcamp.com/album/winter-songs
http://www.ptesquad.com/more/pte067.html

"For the listener who enjoys refined yet bold synth sounds, brooding song progressions and melodies of the utmost quality, we present winter songs by lpower. This album is a log book of pieces of music, conceived in the winter months of 2016 and 2017 and worked on sporadically."

Pterodactyl Squad just put out F13 and it's perhaps my favourite release from Lawrence.

https://ptesquad.bandcamp.com/album/f13

"F13 is the soundtrack to a video game heavily inspired by the Friday the 13th horror series. It all began when David Arseneau started work on a post-grad research project into how pop culture phenomena are pieced together from various component parts and he chose to explore slasher movies and the Friday the 13th franchise. One aspect of this project was creating a working video game and so he enlisted lpower to provide the soundtrack, as well as much of the in-game pixel art.

The whole project will be exhibited by David next year, but for now you can hear this immense, clinical, chilling OST full of retro synth sounds. There are also cassette versions for sale over on lpower's Bandcamp page! Grab one at: lpower.bandcamp.com. And download pixel art for the game by David and lpower: ptesquad.com/images/f13art.zip."

I think I heard an Anamanaguchi song on someone's myspace profile around 2006-2007ish. I'd always loved game music so I thought it was cool and looked up more stuff. I found Disasterpeace's myspace not long after that which lead me to Pause and eventually other netlabels like 8bitpeoples. Somewhere in there I found 8bc and started getting involved and wanted to learn tracker music (and music in general really).

I miss Pause so hard.

I've always been big into electronic dance music and did a degree in music tech. I used to make techno mostly, and was heavily into the Leeds techno scene during my time at university there. Following, I graduated and moved to Japan for an adventure. During the first 3 years here I gave up music entirely and concentrated on getting proficient in the language. Once I got to a level where I was happy, I stopped studying and was looking for a hobby to pick up again, that's where music came in. I started making techno, and dubstep-style music (as dubstep was just blowing up around that time). A friend of mine introduced me to chiptune through the Gamewave Podcast, and I learnt about artists such as Quarta330, minikomi, ??? and eventually 8bc. It was then that I decided to go headfirst into the scene, so I got a gameboy and flashcart and started trying to emulate the dubstep sounds in LSDJ.

Since then, I met Lazerbeat, started Cheapbeats, and the rest is history I guess..! Been here ever since.

The chip scene has been one of the best things in my life and I'm grateful for all the adventures I've had so far, the cool people I've met, and the adventures still to come in the future.

Lovely story mate.

The first thing vaguely in this sphere that I came across was The Advantage. I used to discover a lot of new music on LAUNCHcast (old online streaming radio station type thing) and finding that band and their first album made me realise people actually made (rock) music related to video games. From there I found HORSE the band and discovered the whole Nintendocore scene. I started my own chip rock band with some guys from school (Spheres of Chaos), and the first chip artist I found was Disasterpeace, and from there the MySpace floodgates opened. Then came the Gamewave Podcast, then Pterodactyl Squad. The rest is history.

By the way, I think all the midiNES sound demos are still up on his old site if you're looking to hear something by him you might not have heard before: http://wayfar.net/0xf00000_examples.php

Yeah, last I heard of him was Data Twins. Such a shame. He was a sublime chip talent. His self-titled album is INSANE. I asked Josh (Bit Shifter) where he was these days once and he said he just did a vanishing act. Obviously the midiNES thing had a lot to do with it...

This is something a little different to what we normally release but it's really unique and eerie - I'd never heard anything quite like it...

https://ptesquad.bandcamp.com/album/polybius
http://www.ptesquad.com/more/pte061.html

"Scrabbling around at the bottom of the bargain bin your hand is drawn to a tattered box that looks like it's seen better days. The box art is unsettling but there's something oddly hypnotic as you clutch it in both hands and walk towards the checkout to make the purchase. On the way home you break out into a jog, and once inside you run to the lounge and slam the cartridge into the console. The game loads as you bathe in a flashing neon CRT glow, but as soon as you push START an unasy feeling comes over you and the light bulb above you switches itself off. A cacophony of creatures seem to cry out from the circuits of the console, as polybius draws you closer and closer to the TV screen..."
