Well this is an imaginative topic. Also, someone really needs to mention Bohren & der Club of Gore. That's two reasons to post by now…

Re: Are there any other online music communities like this? (10 replies, posted in General Discussion)
I'm sure there are forums like this for pretty much every sort of niche genre. (Well, at least the more "Internet-compatible" ones.) Other places I keep tabs on include emportal.info for 70s flavor analog synth music; spacesynth.net for the kind of stuff you may remember from Laserdance and Koto… No idea about house or ambient specifically though, sorry OP.

This spring I've been listening to the Smiletron archives a lot. Some other faves include Fearofdark, Dubmood, Big Giant Circles, lpower, flashygoodness, freezedream… I seem to largely gravitate towards "crossover" chiptune.
best find in the last few weeks: Aethernaut – Steamfist Island II

Might be slightly off topic, but anyone have info on what happened to the early Tri Angles singles (i.e. between Smiletron and Farsight)?

oo, sounds promising. I recall seeing some of those tracks on a netlabel some years ago so I guess this is not quite the earliest stock yet?

Hello site!
Occasional lurker signing up here. Thought I'd try actually chatting a bit too (no pun intended). My main online musical hangout is RateYourMusic.com but the place has hardly any other srs chiptune fans.
I've been looking into the scene since about '10… also I'm an on-and-off demoscene/tracker/videogame music fan already since the mid-to-late 90s. Not a musician though (unlike most of you, it seems?)
