If you can get an emulator, like openMSX or blueMSX, running you might want to try out Trilo Tracker. It's still under active development, is widely discussed on the MSX.org forums and there's plenty examples up on YouTube.

To anyone reading this, hi! I'm C'est Tiny Katz though I've gone by several monikers in the past. In yesteryears I was active on the MSX and mod scene. Highlights include coming 3rd in some compo and a random bloke on Nectarine saying they liked one of my songs... yikes

As for the FM part, Hally was playing one of Naruto's tunes using the 1chipMSX. The tune in question is Cream Soda 3, on this page: http://www.rootnyanplus.com/user/naruto/chiptune.html
