messy shit can can still work. try it again, post a photo. messy wiring is the last thing people should be embarrassed about that gets posted on here.
Here are the photos I took if you want any more ask but for now im done with it. Maybe I damaged the arduino when I was desoldering it idk part of it looks like I may have so unless you wanna have a go i may order another pro mini and see if I damaged it. I don't have much of a way to test what's damaged or not aside from maybe with an led I'll gove it a shot after I reply.
EDIT:
Ive officially called it quits. maybe ill reorder the parts and try again but at this time im done messing with it. I feel like ive wasted hours and money. Thankfully not a lot of money. Does anyone know where I can purchase one? or would someone build one for me? Does it matter that im trying to use it with mGB on my gameboy pocket? if thats an issue as well Ill try desoldering my cable and using the one from the four player adapter I have lying around with my DMG. I hope someone can help me out. The only Arduinoboy I can find for sale is the NES controller one from thursday customs and im not really in a position to spend 140$. feel free to reply or PM me if you can help me out thanks!

I'll mess with it again tomorrow but I figure if anything it's due to not using new wire. Tomorrow I'll post pics of what I end up with and go from there. If I cant get it to work what kind of deal could we work out?

The wiring is a mess. I used wires form the NES cable I took apart so that may be part of the issue. I'll have 30 awg stranded wire soon so that's when im going to retry it. I have seperate little pcbs for the leds, the midi in, and one for power then they all connect to their parts on the arduino pro mini. Aside from the arduino I ordered enough parts to make two incase I had to redo it so im going go get another perf board tomorrow and put it all on one board and just have wires linking the parts needed. Im sketching up how im going to put it together now otherwise im just going to try and buy one. The arduinoboy will work with a gameboy pocket right? I was testing it with my modded pocket and a mGB PROM cart I ordered from kitsch-bent. I would post photos but it's a wired mess. If the next try fails I'll post photos but then I plan on buying one from
Someone. I just figured i would try to build one since the parts were dirt cheap. Im located in North Eastern indiana.

Im getting frustrated trying to build one and was wondering if anyone has one lying around they'd be interested in selling. Thanks!

Im also interested. But I need one for a pocket. The one I was building is frustrating me.

The resistor between the button and ground? It's blue in color and has two Browns followed by two dark blues and then a red band. With the button disconnect and the three wires that go to it (the power on one side and the one to 3 and the one to the resistor and ground on the other) one light flashes when it powers on then stops and that's it. So maybe it is just the wrong type of button?
Correction: all the lights flash then the one above the status led flashs three times.
So I got the proper button and ended up just taking the button out all together and having it force into mGB mode. But now im having another issue. Maybe there's a loose wire it seems im going to go through everything again tomorrow before I call it quits but the arduinoboy will work with mGB on a pocket won't it? If not that's anther issue all together.

It's a mess of wires but I've checked every connection so far and maybe thought it might've been that I was powering it through the 5v of the link cable so I tried it with a 9v battery on the raw of the arduino and same issue. I just dug up another thread and tbing it might be the button. I tested the button with an led and found two pins that when the button is pressed it lights up but isn't lit otherwise. But that aside I think my button my be the wrong kind? Here's what I ordered http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.vi 1008569684 i may have to head to radioshack tomorrow and get the right kind if that's the issue and try again.

Im still having this issue. What else could be wrong? It's powered by the gameboy but that doesn't seem like an issue since it powers on the moment I flip the switch. I hope someone can help me out:(

so just swap the wires on my push button and ill be good? I didnt know if it was just cycling waiting for software or not.

To someone that has built an arduinoboy or owns one:
I just wired everything together. I powered on my gameboy pocket and plugged in the link cable and it turns on then the lights cycle one by one then the bottom three flash together and then the top three flash together then it repeats. Did I wire something wrong or is this just because I dont have a mgb or lsdj cart plugged in? I'm hoping its just because i need a cart and not cause i messed up somewhere. Thank you!Feel free to PM me.
Edit: I read this
5. Put your 64m Smart Card in the Gameboy and power on the Gameboy. Wait for the software to load and the LED lights on the Arduino Boy to stop flashing
So it will just flash like that without a mGB or LSDJ cart? I cant wait to test this out. my cart should be here today hopefully so im looking forward to testing it out. Thanks!

I dont know if I havent searched hard enough or have been searching the wrong things, but I have been searching the past week or so planning everything and figuring it all out. Diagrams, sketches etc.
My first question involves powering the arduino and the link cable. The link cable I ordered is an official (i believe) MGB-010 (the one that has a pocket on one end and both the dmg and mgb on the other). As far as I know the only two cables that have the 5v wired are the DMG-04 and the DMG-07(one of which i also ordered purely for the female ports. I want to be able to detach the link cable). But I also saw the Flickr album on swapping the pin wires. So I could use that guide to just swap one of the cables to the 5v pin so that issue is out of the way. However then this brings up another issue. If there are only four cables how would I go about this? The schematic shows that there need to be 5. one each for A0, A1, and A2 on the arduino, the 5v and the ground. Im going to say its the ground one thats getting moved to the 5v pin, so how do i go about grounding it? And while were on the topic of grounding, everything that needs to be grounded on the arduinoboy needs to have a common ground correct?
I also want to note that I only need the midi-in which ill be using a 3.5mm stereo jack instead of the 5-pin din. I figure worst-case-scenario I cant power this bad boy through the link cable then I'll just power it with a 9v battery.
Sorry if some of this has been sorted out elsewhere or If I posted this in the wrong area. Ive been searching for some time and on monday I want to just sit down and knock this out with everything planned ahead of time. Thanks!
I'm not sure that a 4-conductor cable will work to fully power and drive an Arduinoboy. I'd also recommend external power for another reason; LSDJ can be a bit finnicky about starting the Game Boy before the Arduinoboy.
It seems that the current version of LSDJ - I'm using the latest MIDI build - will often crash and hang if the Game Boy boots before the arduinoboy while in certain modes. If you plan on using LSDJ to its fullest you'll want battery or AC power for the arduinoboy to prevent these issues. Wiring it to use 4 AAs or a 9volt and a 7805 regulator is a simple option and will keep it going for ages on a charge.
I have a few 3v coin cells i was going to use if need be. I have four to be exact I figured Id use three. would that work?
