I did the noise filtering/bass enhancement mod here on cm.o and it really made the sound on my cgb 10x better. The regular output on cgb is really atrocious afterwards. There's a lot of hum, zero bass, and noise. With the mod you get very clear sound, and it works great with headphones (though can be a little loud at times).

I think you're right. It's going to be like dubstep, where it existed for a while then caught a bunch of attention (probably due to mary anne hobbs playing it on BBC's radio one), then blew up. But then certain artists came along (ahem I'm looking at you skrillex) and people started associating them with dubstep even though it was really something else. And now what people consider "dubstep" is completely different than what it started out as.

So as much as I want more people to become interested in it, at the same time I don't. I'm afraid it's going to get twisted up and made into something else so that it's easier to consume by the general public. Much like dubstep, since most people probably haven't even heard of Skream, Benga, DMZ, Loefah, etc. but everyone has heard of Skrillex, Rusko, Boregore.

Bump.

I'm in need of some cash and this thing doesn't want to sell, so I'm reducing the price to $200 + whatever s&h is. It should be around $25.

I think this sort of thing is talked about here from time-to-time. I think that some music education is very helpful to writing decent sounding music. Music theory exists because there are certain "patterns" in music so to speak that generally sounds good in certain ways. Such as chords, scales, arpeggios, etc.

Then there is knowing about pitch, tone, dynamics, etc. Knowing about all these things is useful in making a song the way you want it to sound.

Understanding sheet music and notations (can) make it easier to write and also transpose songs for different instruments.

If you're having trouble writing down music that you want to play is sort of tricky. It wold probably be best if you could use music software to enter in notes and have it play back to you.

People who have zero music education can still produce music of course. If using a program like LSDj you could just play around with the note and stuff until you get something you like or think sounds good. It might take longer, and be more frustrating, but it's possible.

Even some normal game cartridges have their batteries last a while. I've have a Pokemon yellow last from when I bought it to now. That's at least 10 years.

Dang, this was a really good deal. I'm not surprised it went so quickly!

I think a lot of people buy multiple half-broken DMGs and try to piece a bunch of them together to make some working ones. You could probably do something similar, and buy one or two DMGs with some other issues.

Wow, I just read through your whole post and wanted to let you know that I'm sorry about your whole situation, and really sucks that you had to go through so much. I can't imagine having such bad luck all the time.

Unfortunately I don't know much about GreyHound or gettng your stuff/money from them, but for a job you can try searching Cragislist. People often post different gigs or jobs there that could be pretty easy. You can also post that you're looking for work there.

You seem fairly tech-savvy, you can try contacting certain recruiters, such as Robert-Half, and they will try to find a job for you. Sometimes they are only contract, or contract to hire, but at least it will be some money.

woah really? you can jump screens using the number keypad?
yikes

Yep! I just finished making my first CGB Link cable to 6p Mini-Din (PS/2) Connector to plug in different keyboards to my Color. The arrow keys control the movement of the cursor, then the numpad keys can control the screens. It's pretty darn neat, and was surprised at how cool it was.

I'm not entirely sure if the CBG link cable could work with the AGB for LSDj, I'm going to try it out tomorrow probably when I can get a hold on an Advance.

There are a few ways to connect a keyboard to a Game Boy:
1. Put a PS/2 port on the Game Boy - Probably the most challenging one
2. Put a Game Boy Link port on the keyboard - A little easier, but still need a link cable with all the required pins, and a link cable port to throw in there.
3. Create an adapter - This is pretty easy, you just need a spare PS/2 Port and a Link cable (can be ordered for cheap on ebay) then connect the wires to the proper pins and it's good to go. Also no modding of keyboard or Game Boy required.

If you have a keyboard with numpad, I know that the 2,4,6,8 keys act as arrow keys to jump between screens, instead of "select + Directional pad"

I really liked the pcb cart too. A friend of mine had one and it's really slick. There was one problem that while he was carrying around his CGB the plastic cracked inwards in the cartridge area with the nanoloop pcb inside. Since it's not a full cartridge it doesn't press against the sides to prevent something like that.

And thanks LazierGunz for that post. I think it brings up a lot of nice things to think about. I definitely need a to-do list. I'm so scatter-brained that it's definitely hard to keep track of things I need to remember.

Haha, same for me. I finished a ton of mods for my CBG and a PS/2 keyboard adapter but I still can't find the motivation to try learning LSDj more. It's really cool and I've figured out a couple neat sounds, but for some reason can't put together a decent track. I want it to be perfect right off the bat, because I have a lot of ideas but don't know LSDj well enough to make the sounds and arrange the music properly. I was in band for like 7 years so I know a ton of music theory and all that but I'm so lazzzyyyyyyy,

For only a month using LSDj this is pretty good! I've been playing around with it for the last two months and still can't make anything musically coherent.

Very cool, thanks for the tip! It's seems very likely that the cable I purchased will have all the wires. How easy is it to switch the pins around? A lot of USB type cables usually require the destruction of the housing to get access to where the wires are soldered to the connector.

Very cool! Do you have a link to the ones you bought? This is the one I got. The listing states there are 6 pins, but I wonder if there will be 6 wires inside. Guess I'll find out!
