Awesome!

Will you be adding more drum kits?

If you can only fit two drum kits maybe you should think about releasing multiple versions with different kits/samples.

I have a custom version of Onputer.gb with your name on it.(or in it I should say)

I can make you some really cool custom/modified ROMs.

Just send me a PM with your request(s) and email address.

Serious requests only, please.

(And my services are free of charge for good requests)

Damn, I really want the Blood red one or the green one but I have to pay rent this week.

Your mods look amazing, so clean!

Here is another GB ROM that I modified for you -

I made two versions - Normal and Dark

I'm working on more modified ROMs for you, maybe you can release them as bonus material for Guanxi or something.

Someonesomewhere - I just sent these to you, so check your email whenever you get a chance.

Looks nice!

It would only cost you an additional $17.75(plus shipping) to make the buttons(D-pad+A+B) and power switch clear.

I know you've probably already seen this but here are the links anyway -

http://store.kitsch-bent.com/product/batt_dmg

http://store.kitsch-bent.com/product/custom-buttons

You don't really need to do this, your DMG already looks really cool!

I wish someone made clear start/select buttons.

And it might look cleaner if you tried to route your pro-sound wires differently, you don't really have to do this because I know how hard it is to get those damn wires to stay where you want them when putting the guts back in and closing the DMG's shell.

And if you want to add a page1 LED to your EMS cart check this out -

http://chipmusic.org/forums/topic/2704/ … -led-pics/

I can help you out with the page1 LED mod if you want, I know a few tricks about this mod because I've done this mod a bunch of times.

Also I can also hook you up with some really cool custom/modified ROMs to put on your 64m cart if your interested.

I really like the mods that you did to that DMG, keep up the good work!

Hey guys,

I wanted to show my support for your project so I made you a GB ROM with modified Guanxi-style graphics just for you.

I actually made two versions - Normal and Dark versions

Here are some screenshots of them -

I can send them to you attached to an email

Just PM me your email address if you want me to send them to you, OK.

I don't really use dithering or anti-aliasing that much because I don't like to over-complicate my artwork.

But I do apply many of the techniques that I've learned making other forms of art to my pixel art and I'm always researching and experimenting.

And I'm constantly looking for inspiration everywhere possible.

Most of the pixel art that I make is for use within GB and NES ROMs or just for personal fulfillment.

How do you guys/girls go about making your pixel art?

I found this to be extremely helpful while learning/improving my pixel shading and dithering techniques -

I call the FakePanda image "fake" pixel art because it could be passed off as "authentic" pixel art(drawn pixel-by-pixel) even though it was actually created by altering an existing image with help from image editing software(even though it did require some amount of skill and manual pixel placement).

I understand that your definition of pixel art is - art drawn by hand pixel-by-pixel comprised entirely out of pixels, correct?

I would consider the BalloonGirlReplica "authentic" pixel art that fits within your definition of pixel art because it was actually drawn by hand pixel-by-pixel.

I rant because I haven't slept in days and I apologize for getting off topic.

I brought up ethics because the Panda image that I used has been notoriously stolen and misused by many different artists without permission from its original creator(most people who are familiar with the piece don't even know who the creator of it is and they attribute it to being created by Banksy even though that's completely false).

And I also spoke a little about my views on ethics(and the use of other people's artwork) because I've read many other posts written by people in this community who have a very strong view on ethics(and the use of other people's artwork).

I would like to inspire other artists to make both "authentic" and "fake" pixel art and to post images of your work here.

I kind-of want to tell people that its ok to steal/use/modify other artists works but I don't want to compel them to use other artists works to seek praise, fame, or money.

I should really try to get some sleep, I can't even think straight or spell properly.

Everything feels completely discombobulated.

I made this originally with the intention to contrast my last image submission.

This image is a fabulous fake.

Most people think that the original version of this was created by Banksy when it was actually originally created by Julien Fanton D'Andon.

Its been notoriously ripped off, stolen, and used by hundreds of different "street artists".

I cheated my ass off to bring this image to you and to show one way to produce fake pixel art.

To make this I simply converted the image(I found the image with a simple google-image search and saved image as...>then edited it) to indexed colors(1bit palette black and white using the free program GIMP), scaled the image down(drastically but not so much that it looses all line definition), manually touched up the image with the pencil tool(this takes some artistic skill and a little time), then scaled the image back up(I chose 400% because I wanted to show off its detail but this step isn't always necessary, cropping the image is also the logical thing to do at this point but not always necessary). And Voila - fake pixel art.

This is the stuff you guys hate and consider fake.

I'm not trying to argue a point and I know you guys are actually very accepting.

I'm still on the fence about the use of stolen or fake material.

Fake pixel art has a place here with pixel art and a place in the future of pixel art as an art form.

Some of it is actually interesting artwork(I'm not trying to make argue a point, its just a statement to lead into the next sentence).

I'll probably feel this way until someone rips off a piece of my artwork and makes a huge profit from it, but that's not the only fear fake artwork brings.

We all know that no one should support stealing artwork because it hurts the artists, the community, and even the reputation and value of an art form.

There is no reason to give me a lecture about ethics and whatnot, I already know.(and I value your opinions)

But there will always be fake artwork, its a part of human nature to mimic whatever it is that we aspire to be or want to create.

I think that there is no way to stop this from taking place.

I personally love replicating(or modifying) artwork that I admire, its normal and its a very human thing to do.

I also love being creative and making original artwork as well but I've actually learned a lot by replicating(or blatantly stealing and modifying) artwork.

I support the creation of fake artwork but I'm firmly against people profiting from fake artwork.

So if your going to replicate or steal a piece of artwork(with the intention to modify or even make fake pixel art from other works) do it but please do it tastefully and don't do it for praise, fame, or money.

Share your work, support other artists, and always strive to grow as an artist and as a person.

I also intentionally chose to turn her hand gripping the balloons around because I thought it looks more aesthetically pleasing.

It just made more sense that way when I was drawing it.

I wanted to make it as near to an exact replica as I possibly could but obviously a few tweaks had to be made.

I drew this entirely by hand.

I used Banksy's original(as seen painted on the Israeli West Bank Barrier) only as a visual reference, I did not use any cheats/shortcuts.

I only used a 1pixel-pencil-tool and black/white-colors.

(well I did crop my drawing once it was finished but there's no harm in that, right?)

I love the EMS 64m carts that I own.

I use them daily and they work great.

They do have a few problems like other people have previously mentioned but if your just using them for LSDJ and you have a computer with an older OS they should work perfectly.

And you can easily mod them to have a Page1 LED -

http://chipmusic.org/forums/topic/2704/ … -led-pics/

EMS 64m carts are relatively cheap, easy to back-up, and they work great for multi-rom use as well.

I think this has become a debate of old-school vs. new-school, hand drawn pixel-by-pixel vs. modern computer-aided techniques.

I embrace both.

As for "merits as pixel art" - think what you want, I don't really care what you think, I don't post my artwork to seek praise and if you don't like my work whatever, I just hope to inspire others to pursuit creating their own artwork.

I feel that my artwork leans toward the old-school hand drawn style if you look at my entire portfolio.

The stuff that I've posted here is a very small selection of my recent work.

Recently I've been using the new-school style because I've been experimenting with many different things and I'm not opposed to taking help from a computer.

I fulfill requests for ROMs with hacked graphics regularly and these new techniques have really helped me save lots of time and effort.

I'm pretty sure that everyone who has taken advantage of the services has been extremely happy with my work.

I'm always taking requests for any kind of graphic artwork that you may need as well as for custom/modified GB and NES ROMs.

My services are free of charge for "good" requests.(Good being acceptable ones that are within my power to fulfill)

If you want something feel free to ask.(serious requests only, please)

I'm not trying to steal any thunder from artists who spend ridiculous amounts of time drawing pixel art pixel-by-pixel, I actually have lots of respect for them because I spend ridiculous amounts of time drawing pixel art pixel-by-pixel too.

I'm going to continue posting my work here and I hope to see your work posted here as well.

I see your point and it is a valid one but I think you shouldn't put such tight limitations on any form of art.

Here is a definition that I found of Pixel-art -

Pixel Art: Art that is created exclusively with pixels. Due to the nature of the medium, pixel art can often have a jagged appearance in parts.

I see how the use of filters can be considered cheating, so what, embrace it as a style if the end result adds up to an image comprised of 100%pixels with an intentional separation between colors(like in ui's Godzilla-facepalm image) rather than shun the technique altogether.

Drawing entirely by hand limits pixel art as an art-form, I say be creative and embrace whatever tools and techniques you want(if the end result is comprised exclusively of pixels), don't limit your creativity.
