Yes sir! Chuck D was almost a hero to a young me.
And here for a sec I thought you did that for me because I made that video of my Gameboy plugged into my system
You know the previous banner made that dude feel elated for at least a day. Bet he even saved a screenshot of it too.

I used the demo of Renoise from about 2007 to 2011 I think, then I bought a license. Worth every penny. I love the way their license system works compared to other DAWs (I respect Reaper's pricing model, too. Very fair). You buy a license and you're good from the current version up to the next full version. So right now you'd buy at version 3.1.x and be good until 4.1.x and that takes a long, long time. I bought at 2.9 I think and it's been nearly 5 years now. Even in that time there have been plenty of changes and updates, but they don't go up the version numbers too fast unless there's a big, big change in features.
I hear what you're saying but I have a long way to go before understanding using stuff like that. Its all sample based is it not? LSDJ was my very first exposure to using trackers whatsoever and my abilities with that isn't super great (probably evidenced by the music I've posted here.) Getting good things out of tables for example is a struggle for me, but at least I dont have to find samples since it has built in synthesis. I was considering moving into famitracker to learn something a little "bigger" that also has some built in synthesis. At any rate, yes, I'll play with Renoise.

If I may interject 2 cents as well, I have to agree only so far as my experience goes. Nonelectronics has been around for quite a while, I would imagine if there was a scam, it wouldn't have lasted as long as it has. I've never had any real issues ordering stuff from them before, but I admit I've never ordered a custom DMG. I got both of my own modded DMGs from Thursday Customs and if for future references you find yourself looking again, he does fantastic work. As far as Anthony is concerned, he is a human afterall, how many people around the globe could be ordering stuff from him? Between that, relocation and etc, i'm thinking you were just the one that "fell thru the cracks", and i'm sorry as well because I know I care about my music, and definitely my money when I spend it.
Just wanted to add my name to the list of people who have ordered from Nonelectronics before and 'not' been let down. I too think there has just been an honest mistake going on. Best of luck good sir.
I don't know much about using DAWs or what plugins do, etc but thanks for the link, I might try playing around with it, can't hurt.
Sorry for slightly jacking your thread for a moment there Dolby-Z. Back to your point, everything you are saying, I agree with you 100%. I rather believe your original point is something that separates more talented 'composers' from simple 'beat makers' like myself. Whole world of difference in overall listening experience certainly.

"actually"
o.k?
Surely, I'm not going to lie about it. I have never used Renoise I've only seen a few pictures so I don't know squat about, and since I'm not the kind of person that pirates software, I will probably never know unless something hits me one day that makes me believe I need it.
My logo...haha. I guess you're right but what it actually is; it is from a small segment of the TIA chip schematic (Atari 2600.) That console was my first foray into making chip (or creating anything for that matter) back in 2010. Prior to that I was a live DJ at a local club, did a couple others a few times as well. I decided to keep it after I moved on from the 2600, still have that number in my web address too. Just personal/nostalgia crap but now that you've pointed that out, I guess it represents me well because if you knew me in person, you'd figure out pretty quickly I am in fact a d**k.
@Marcb0t; that is genius yet so simple, I'm almost disappointed in myself for not thinking of that. Easier fix The crap we can go thru to achieve a sound we want, geez.
On the other point, I'm too stubborn or pseudo-prideful to have someone else record my audio haha.
At any rate, thanks for the suggestion, that's likely what I'm going to do
You bring up an interesting point actually. I guess I do prefer the sounds you call thin although I really like to try to use that limited hardware to make tunes that absolutely do not sound like they could be easily dropped in as the backdrop of an actual video game, but in fact sound good in a car audio setting. My problem however (and I bet it's due to honest to goodness ineptitude) is I do not like DAWs. I don't like how they look or feel, but what else is there then? I've heard of Renoise, supposedly a tracker interface with some DAW functionality. Technically though you are correct, layered and thick well produced music definitely requires more than just a few channels. Chiptune, nothin' like it
Thank you folks.
Yeah, that would be possible except my wav channel is loaded up with other crapola.
Basically, I could 2xlsdj this but this is the last tune in line for a formal CD release on an otherwise fully 1xlsdj album so I'd kind of rather not.
My DMGs don't have a clock mod so I suppose it's either accept as is or engage in a little waveform trickery and record this pulse channel bassline seperately at a higher tempo then adjust back accordingly in dear ol' Audacity thereby faking the effect of a clock mod. Ah chip music, nothin' like it.
e.s.c. wrote:i never made anything that's really "bass music", but a lot of stuff i did as e.s.c. from 2010 on tended to be very heavy on the bass... i played some gigs where the bass from my tracks shook some of the gear off my table
I respect that good sir I would even say that's awesome but then I'd feel like a prick if you had managed to damage any of your gear in the process.
Would anyone know of any table tricks or combination of commands that might somehow give me a lower bass note from the pulse channel? That C3 at the bottom with a 50% modulation makes the sound I want for a tune I'm working on, but I'd love to make that sound/note a little lower. Ideas?
Well guys, just for the fun of it I made one of those craptastic cellphone vids for YouTube of my sub beating in the back of my Jeep...but playing directly off my Gameboy. If anything, I can only say someone had to do it, and if you watch, it IS 7 minutes of your life you won't get back.

You know, i'm used to hearing two things; either MY music sucks, or my taste in music sucks but that aside, at least once a month I used to save up a small handful of tunes I liked on 8bc and burnt them on a CD to listen to in my vehicle. I have long since lost all that except for one disc I happened to have laying in a box with a bunch of old hardware and general crapola. I just ripped it to a zip and uploaded it to my web server. Couldn't really tell you anyone on here except I remember this guy named "ilocan" who pretty much everyone crapped on. The guy was rather friendly and older, I felt bad for him. Anyway, here it is:

*Edit:
This particular CD worth of music was just one random month. Sorry I have no names for ya nor a better time frame.
Right on guys, I'll dig into that. I just don't really know too well what I'm doing. For example, I've tried recording and adjusting levels for individual channels but I never find the right balance, I don't like how it sounds and I'm aware it's my ineptitude. Instead I watch volumes in each LSDJ channel, record to Audacity, run my noise filter then do a little EQing and throw on a very tiny touch of reverb in some cases.
If I get an interface that is not USB feeding that individual signal, how do I get the audio to my computer?
As for that EQ on the device I linked from Amazon, I wouldn't even use that, I would've wanted to do the EQ on the computer. Anyway, i'll look closer at Focusrite for the moment. Thank you for the input fellas.
This thing works so freaking perfectly I just thought I might share in case anyone else was wondering what might be a good way to transport or store their Gameboys or similar hardware.
That case in an Intec made for the Gameboy Advance SP. You can find these on eBay for under $30. They are metal clad, have a pair of locking metal clamps, and a thick handle built in.
Basically, there are these foam slats in the case that are crossed to form square slots for the SP and the like. They can be popped right out one by one, so you could pop out two for example and still have four squares and the one big rectangular space, or however you want it. The inside is padded, and the flap in the back gives way to two netted pockets where I store my USB2GB power adapters and my GB sync cable. This thing fits and secures my Gameboys perfectly, the carts are laying down in a pair of foam squares so they are good and safe too, and because of their placement, they also secure the sides of the Gameboys so they can't move around in any way when they are down in there.
I apologize if this is a goofy or pointless post to anyone, but I wanted to show this to my fellow chipmusic folk because this case if very worth buying if you want a decent way take care of your hardware, whether it's a Gameboy or whatever you can fit in there. It's nicely built.
Hey guys. Got a fresh modded DMG from my man Justin at Thursday Customs. I'm finally ready to tinker with 2xLSDJ. So now I have a question; would this be an ideal mixer/usb interface for recording:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B005EHILV
ref=plSrch
For whatever reason, I really don't like 1/8 or 1/4 jacks, I prefer RCA so as such both of my DMGs are RCA prosounded. I read thru some searches before posting here and learned that it is a massive no-no to use Y-splitters and the like. I'm glad I looked because I was honestly thinking of getting an RCA splitter to feed into the recording interface I use now which is the Behringer UCA222.
I'm venturing into territory I don't know here, but I assume the mixer I linked to above is what I would need because it has two sets of RCA inputs, and because it is USB connectable, I assume (if you guys think it will do the job) that I then record directly from this right? It would become my sound interface thus replacing the UCA222 right?
Thank you folks.
@The One; I do wish there more. I have 15s in my own vehicle, and its so enjoyable to find 8-bit stuff that actually hits either hard or low. As for the guy you mentioned, I'll dig in when I get home from work.
@Boner; heck yeah. PEB's electro style, huge. Bass 305 was pretty amazing too. If you like those fellas, I might suggest digging up some stuff by the slightly lesser known UBM (Underground Bass Masters) Similar stuff.
By the way, if what you're working on shares any commonality with those guys, keep me appraised, looking forward to checking it out.
