TSC: thx a lot for all da help dude. Most appreciated. We - old people - need it periodically. wink

Martin: where is the MP3 with it!?!?!?! smile

Pro - yes of course - I didn't notice it.

Anyway. I gave up. Will stick to 4ch after all. Making techno-rave without volumes is impossible for me now, haha. Truly I got soft within years, as 20 years ago we were making some 6ch and 8ch techno modules on OctaMED after all. wink Without using volume commands. wink

4ch it is.

Thx, all.

Later Digibooster pro and Octamed Soundstudio used the CPU and AHI but you needed much more than a standard a500 (and probably standard a1200) to make use of it. Both were basically fasttracker2 clones, with OSS being more advanced in some respects.

DigiBooster 1.7 does 8ch without any problems, on a standard A1200.
Check out http://yerzmyey.i-demo.pl/ (search for "RetroBeat" title). Recorded from real hardware.
With my 1200 I use only the DB.

But for A500 the OctaMED - is the best. wink

OK, not for ALL Amiga 500 computers but for some of them (worked on mine!!!!! wink ).

How to "increase Yourself" wink Your ChipRam to have 1Mb for samples.

Jens Wrote:

A simple way to extend your chipram to 1MByte is to use an ECS Agnus and activate the "Chipmap" feature of the ACA500. The stock firmware of the ACA500 does not activate Chipmap yet. However, the latest version does:
http://wiki.icomp.de/wiki/File:Menu500_V081.zip

Unpack that archive to a FAT-formatted CF card, insert the card into the AUX slot and remove any card from the Boot slot. Start the computer, press F10 for expert menu, then F for flash update. Follow the instructions on screen. After the update, it will activate ChipMap if you have an ECS Agnus, so you can use 1MByte Chipram.

So I asked my friend JAD how to check the Agnus out and he informed me there is a prog "WhichAmiga":
http://aminet.net/package/util/moni/WhichAmiga

I tested my machine and I saw this:
"Custom Animation Chip: ECS PAL Fatter Agnus 8372A, 1Mb".

So - it should work.

I re-flashed the ACA500, like Jens suggested.

And........... IT WORKED! wink Now I have 1Mb of ChipRam and 1,5Mb of FastRam.
Also, additionally, I intend to buy the ACA1220 card, to get 128Mb of Fast and 020 CPU, heheh.

You can also not-accept the "Halve Loaded Samples" option but then all the samples will be heavily distorted, so it's pointless.

Desumate:

I meant floppy disk because then the RAM isn't so much occupied. You know, by system, by 3.1 ROM, and so on.

> What is the recommended bit rate?

I dunno. Normally 22050 should be OK. Or even 16000 (when I wanna make smaller samples...)?

Guyz will tell ya for sure.

Yes, problems with volumes are annoying (no use of the "C" command, as it affects 2 channels, so - like I mentioned before - it's better to not to use it at all).

Normally I avoid this mode too, and use A1200 instead, to make real 8ch songs, but this time I wanted to make something new on A500, You know. However it seems like I will not be able to, with the hardware I presently own.

On the other hand, maybe You are right. Maybe I could use some really small samples and FDD instead. Hmmmmmmm.
OK, thx for the tip anyway. Looks like having A1200 made me too soft, hahah. wink

Perhaps it's time to get back to real 1Mb of RAM and floppy disks? wink

TSC, Akira:

Aaaah, thanks guyz. So - that's more less what I thought and what I was afraid of.
So I must have 2Mb of ChipRam, if possible to do such a mod (I mean the A500).

Akira:

> In any case, 2MB is a shit ton of RAM to fill up with mono 8-bit samples!!!! Specially since these samples are stored at variable rates, so you can have really small ones.
----------
Well, not in any case, as it seems: the idea was to make several techno-rave traxx in 8channels mode. There I have only 4 volumes for 8 channels, which exactly means no volumes at all.
Hence, I wanted to make twice more samples (in variations/versions: full volume + half of the volume, for delays and so on).
So it seems like I can't do it at the moment on A500, and there's no point to do it on A1200, as it has DigiBooster, a very powerful util (the most, of the Amiga soft?).

OK then, so I leave the project for "better times".

Thanks again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11111111111elevenone

Hi guys.
To not to add more topics.
I have a question to OctaMED masters.

Here is the OctaMED:

and there is MEM in the left/lower corner.
The first number is the ChipMem, as far as I know. The second one is "Other Mem".
This screenshot probably comes from emulator but the problem is - the "Chipmem" is never so big. It's usually 1Mb or max. 2Mb on real machines, as I noticed.
And now - why this "software" puts all the samples in this small amount of RAM whilst there is no real turbo/memory-addon, supporting the Chip?
Seem like I can have even 128Mb of RAM but if the I have base A500 1Mb (+ the 128Mb), still I will be able to load only 1Mb of samples (!??????????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) - or 2Mb if I have A1200.
Is there any way to configure this shit to load samples to extended memory (Other Mem)???????
Plz help.
Y

Hmmmmmmmmm.
Sadly, if You have just an Amiga500 1Mb (standard), the board will be no use for entertainment: most demos nor games don't work.
Only utilities (like mine the main tool - the OctaMED). I've just discovered it.

Thank You VERY MUCH. smile  smile  smile  smile  smile  smile  smile  smile  smile  smile  smile  smile  smile  smile  smile
With the ACA500 interface I kicked my A500 to work again. wink

Wow dude, thx a lot, I will check diz out too. Hopefully would work with 4.0.
Good finding.

At last - a really impressive (and cheap!!) booster for A500.
It's called ACA500 and You can read about it here:
http://scoopex1988.org/the-scoop-examin … ca500.html

- 2 kickstarts on-board: standard 1.3 and..... 3.1! smile
- 2 CF cards: on the left - a card for transferring data from/to PC. On the right - the main CF that is Amiga's HDD. This HDD is *BOOTABLE*!
- CPU booster - 14Mhz (!!).
- additional 2Mb of RAM. It doesn't "fight" with the standard RAM, so on A500 1Mb You should have 3Mb in general. And 4Mb on Amiga500 Plus.
- the additional slot is....... for A1200 cards! smile So You can have even faster A500, if required. smile

I bought mine several days ago and it came yesterday. I installed there Workbench 3.1 and... it works excellent. smile Will be testing OctaMED 4.0 (after first tries it has no problems working smile ).

Wow, dude. Nice.

PS: Is that a Yamaha 500? I was heavily using it in 1994. Good stuff. Good on-board sequencer btw.

PS.2: Cool dog. wink

Yo dudezzzzzz.
The player has changed.
Supposedly not without a reason however still I have 2 questions, if You don't mind.
1) Is it possible to add to the new player some indicator of the songs' length and present moment of in time while listening? Or whatever the hell it's called in English?
2) If not - is it possible to restore the previous player?
Byezzzzzzzzz.

So, after several weeks the 1-bit / BEEPER forum seems to be stable in a technical way, it has already some crew of users and - I think - interesting infos, news and songs.
So this time I don't invite You to the raw place wink but to the mature forum. wink
There are programmers - authors of trackers and engines, musician and also fans of this kind of chiptunes. A pretty good source of some -1bit good, I'd say. wink
Byez,
