No really, I was super excited for this, but I didn't manage to get in on the order. Perhaps that's for the best, but if he does release the code, then I very well might make a pet project out of it. I'd have no idea what I'm doing, but if things eventually work out then I'll let everyone know.

So he's open sourcing the software? How hard do you think it would be to make my own cart with the potentiometers and stuff?

SP is good if you get the backlit version (AGS-101). That said, the audio out is through the link cable port only, unless you mod it.

headphone out adapters use the power connection, not the link cable connection
all SP's are backlit, just the newer ones have a brighter setting and a normal vs the old ones with only one brightness level (which is more than adequate)

Slight clarification: only the second gen sp's were backlit. The older ones were in fact fronlit.

As far as I'm aware, the hardware is otherwise the same.

What a dilemma ... Do I want to buy a Shruthi or do I want the pleasure of building my own?

This is what I record with and gig with as Noyzbot when that happens:
2x GBA w/ Nanoloop 2.6 / 2.7.2 respectively
1x Korg Volca Beats
1x Akai Professional MPX8
1x Korg Kaoss Pad 3
1x Behringer VMX200USB
1x Microsoft Surface (for recording from mixer)

What's your opinion on the Volca Beats? I had a lot of fun with it, but I've been using the Volca Sample as my go to rhythm machine for a couple months now.

Well, I'm back, I guess. Not really. This isn't 8bc. I can't believe it took me this long to learn about this site considering 8bc has been down for years...

Anyway, I've been messing around with LSDJ for a while now. Unfortunately, all of my recordings were stored on either 8bc or a now deceased hard drive. I just recently picked up a couple cheap GBC's though, and with some fresh pro sound and frontlight kits from Kitsch, I'm ready to get back into full swing.
