There will be the second brand new version. If Ccowley has time.

> And on a related note, are all of these eventually going to make their way to Beepola(2?) or is there some criteria for what engines are included? I'm not too good at XM.
-----------------
It is possible. I didn't asked him but I suspect so.
New Beepola has to be totally re-written to implement any new engines. Hence the "2" version.

Another new engine - Huby. 2 channels.

Very minimal, in a good way.

OK then, finally I managed to record the Tritone sound.

Ne7: it's a real fun. However - including first attempts to figure out what's working how. wink

Sadly at the moment I have no time to upload more examples (I'm at work), so I uploaded only one
http://z80.i-demo.pl/MISTER_BEEP-The_nuthouse.mp3
from LyndonSharp 3-channels engine.

The rest I will simply take from old uploads, maybe it would be useful for somebody -
OCTODE - http://chipmusic.org/mister+beep/music/spring-is-coming
QChan - https://8bc.org/music/MISTER+BEEP/Galac … +usual%29/

I finish my first TRITONE song so for now I have no recordings from Timex. sad
Anyway - more/less that's how they sound.

Yawn.
I'm bored. Nobody writes about 48K machines lately.

So maybe it's a good opportunity to mention - this month appeared 4 engines for Spectrum48 (3 new and one reverse-engineered, from 80s).
Plus one without editor yet (it will be later implemented into Beepola2).

The trick is, one can write music in XM format. Pretty nice, huh? wink Shiru has made the job.
Engines:
Octode
QChan
Tritone
LyndonSharp
Phaser2 (without editor yet).

Check out the WOS forum http://www.worldofspectrum.org/forums/f … y.php?f=18

If you want MP3 recordings of the engines sound, I can upload something.

Greetings,
MB

________EDIT___________
Aha, one problem - recording from emulator is actually pointless. They're too complicated for emulation. However some post-processing might help.

Well, TS has only regular AY sound (x2) and TSFM has AY sound x2 + FM Yamaha sound x2.
Here is the site dedicated to the problem:
http://velesoft.speccy.cz/turbosound-cz.htm

Hi Ant,

only one thing -
in "YM 2203" section there should be "Turbo-Sound FM".
Turbo-Sound is something different.

By the way, I've just bought the card. smile Works fine, although I didn't tested any editors yet (if there are any native).

Unlike the emulators, it generates some pretty loud "click" on the beginning of every played song. (Or maybe it's on emulators too?)
Ah well, it's always possible to delete the click after recording.

Greetings.

Yes, quality of AY emulation is scandalous, therefore I was only checking out if the AY works (and this emulation is enough to determine it). I tested the special TS2068 program for AY and it worked. However the poked SoundTracked didn't worked.
Maybe I made something wrong with the POKEs?

Sure thing.
Here it is http://www.chuntey.com/

Also, I believe I tested this one ftp://ftp.worldofspectrum.org/pub/sincl … la.tap.zip for AY (worked OK).

Additionally, I can upload somewhere the SoundTracker I poked, if required.

Best wishes,

Well, if the SoundTracker runs on TS2068, just without sound, you're lucky - adaptation is a matter of few POKEs. Try this version, add POKE 55710,245:POKE 55716,246 before last RANDOMIZE USR. Clock frequency of AY in TS2068 is close enough, so it is not necessary to change the table.

Hm. Seems like after the POKEs sound indeed disappeares from Spectrum.
However, also seems like it doesn't appeare on Timex 2068 (with ZX emulator cartridge).
Although I admit - I tested it only on emulator.
It's because peple on TS2068 mailing list said that TS2068 has audio output only for beeper (!!!!) and no audio output for AY.
And more exactly - the sound from AY goes to... ZX-BUS!!
That's the most idiotic thing I have ever seen.

PS: Emulator is OK - I tested other AY programs for TS2068 and they make sound while the hacked ST remains silent.
Is there any posibility the POKEs could be improved/corrected or rather not really?

So maybe something active-aggressive.

I wonder why before posting such a text you don't ask about technical matters anybody who has any knowledge. First software with polyphonic sound appeared not 30 years after releasing ZX48 but 3 years after the date.
Finally, the 8-channels editor appeared just 6 years after ZX48's releasing. Not 30.

Such desinformation only annoys me.

At least the sent songs were cool, mostly.

Thanks a lot guys. smile I realize it's not easy to listen to such an oldschool and minimal material, heh.

Actually today I found a suprising thing related somehow with the album -
an ambient remix of one of the tracks from the album.

No that's bizarre. smile

Shiru is right (usually he does) which means the machine is in technical matter a ZX Spectrum 48K with AY but in software matter it isn't - because totally different ROM chip controles it (and the ZX-bus is different too).

Theoretically if you replace the ROM with a ROM chip from some broken ZX48 or ZX48+, then the Timex 2068 will work like a ZX48 with another ZX-bus.

When you buy a twister-board, you will have a ZX48 with a normal ZX-bus.

If you use the idea from Shiru (pokes for SoundTracker) you will have a fully working demo-scene (or music) standard = ZX48+AY.

I will try to check it out tomorrow (depends of condition of my friend who would have to change the ROM to test the SoundTracker).

Will let you know! smile

I tested the SoundTracker itself now, on the TS2068 and of course it doesn't work on stock machine.
However soon I will try to change ROM again and then it should work.
Will let you know of course.

Thanks a lot!

IAYD: well, I'm pretty sure if Shiru says he could hack the SoundTracker, then surely he can.
It would solve the biggest problem.
As for the Spectrum Emulator - **SURELY** you should get it if you can. Sadly it's impossible to get it in my country so I have to make dangerous test with ROMs.
If I had the Emulator cart, I'd be very happy.

PS: Let me know guys, if you have the TS2068 version of SoundTracker.

IAYD: argh. It's not so good.
2068 model is not this one http://mister_beep.republika.pl/
Only 2048 is compatible with Spectrum so can use Spectrum's editors (like I do).

To force your 2068 to real work you'd have to change its ROM chip (replace with a ZX48 ROM chip).
Then it would work. But still only in 1-bit mode.

In 2068 the AY chip, sadly, has been put on different ports, so no AY editor will work anyway.
So I'm afraid, if you're not "into the subject-matter" then the machine is rather useless to you.

Last year (or so) I bought this model myself but:
1) I am interested only in music from Z80 chip
2) I have to change ROM into the Spectrum's one (still didn't test)
3) I had to buy a "twister-board" for a case if I would like to plug-in _any_ interface from ZX Spectrum.

The machine is good for my needs but I'm afraid for yours the best would be Spectrum 128+ or +3.
