That was a fun day! I rarely get out of the house so it was good.

I just wanted to chime in to say I think that it's very respectable of the people at DI to send someone over here to clear this up. It shows a very pro-artist mindset. It's not cheap or easy offering a service like this, people have to get payed; but they also wanna help artists get heard. Mike deserves a beer.

Totally. I mean also. As far as the whole thread goes... getting paid was never really the motivation for it. Wasn't ever really the issue. Was the profit being made off of music intended for free listening. Thread has educated me a lot. If what DI.FM is doing is legal and on the books somehow. I have no problem with it. If not...? Hopefully it can be sorted out. I think the idea of putting up an easy to access playlist of everything being streamed is a good idea. If it was taken a step further and had a link to where the said album was hosted... for free... since all the music being played seems to be under CC. I'd feel even better about the whole situation.

It'd be a shame to see half of the music taken off the Chiptune channel. But it was something that I felt had to be brought to light. Hate to be the bad guy -__-.

Well this thread has proved to educate me on such matters. I will look into it later today! Just thought i'd bring the site etc up. Thanks!

I honestly... just don't want someone profiting on something I put out there specifically for free. Doesn't seem right at all. God damn internet.

I just feel like... if they are playing our music on streaming radio for money! We should get a profit (even if small).. Last.FM, Spotify etc.. Gives us a profit. Idk. Can we request our music taken off DI.FM? As I haven't seen a promotional advantage to having it on the site. I'd like to see what some one of chiptune label managers think of this site streaming music under CC... IE. Pause.. Bleepstreet., Data Thrash, 8BP, Data Airlines.  etc etc and making a profit.

It's not like I'm not happy they are streaming our music... Because that's cool. It's just if they are making money off of my friends.. When I listen to their site I'd atleast like premium streaming. Knowing they are making money off of me and said friends. Can we make this happen? Or do we have to be assholes and tell them to get rid of our music on the chiptune channel.

I'm going to bring it to the attention of at least my managers. But I thought it was worthy of a topic!

Why are they playing a lot of our music... while offering a premium service? Doesn't premium service void the Creative Commons licence? Kind of had a few drinks but. Thought this should maybe be brought up. For conversational sake even if it's legal.. heh.

EDIT: I was gonna do some gaming... so I was like DI.FM cool... but I could only listen at shit quality... to my friends music.. That's how this came about. If we aren't getting a profit.. and they are... like with spotify etc... why do they have a fucking chiptunes section? Can we get our music taken off? Idk.. I feel like it's a valid discussion. i don't post a lot.

I haven't received much promotion through DI.FM so I don't see it as a good source for that.

Enlighten me on why they can do this. Blah... blah blah..'

Those who are played on the site... should at the least get access to premium streaming of music? In my mind at least hah...

EDIT AGAIN: Drunk... as usual. But trying to be constructive... as I don't post here often. I know (maybe you didn't) Sites like last.fm do pay you for your streams worth .. through labels (% through label pay) and in your artist account you can claim it if you haven't already. But I don't know of any options through DI.fm. Please enlighten me if there is a way. Word...

MisfitChris - The Howling

01. The Howling
02. SkullCat
03. Tropico Mud Cat

Our second transatlantic release of the year and it comes from the hands of MisfitChris, an artist who is moving the chip sound forward with his fantasy themed electro & house.

“The Howling” is a dark electro-chip wobbly thumper inspired by early VHS horror movies. It’s hard hitting beats, epic drops, liquid basslines and colorful bleeps make this a solid track. After this epic cat adventure comes “SkullCat”, a beautifully arranged wobble-pop tune with a sort of like Chris Hülsbeck sound floating in the air, this one is another solid track for the pack.

Bringing the tempo down, we end the journey with “Tropico Mud Cat”, it starts with a funky groove that dances around a digital laptop reggae vibe, accompanied with vocals, chip style arps and lovely cat scratches.

All in all, this is a sweet release for cats.

So I actually had this released recently! Kinda sorta forgot to update everyone (been playing too many MMO's lately). But yeah! So Bleepstreet was nice enough to host my latest works. They are really cool guys. I hope you guys like it!

Net Labels are great. Gives you a chance to collaborate and become close friends with a group of artists w/ like minded tastes. You also gain new fan bases based on that labels audience. Sometimes it's nice to self release, but net labels can really get your name out their to people who wouldn't normally hear your stuff. Again... it depends on the net label.

Also as far as like getting on a net label. If you make something that you feel like would really suite a labels style send a demo. But I think for the most part you should always wait for net labels/labels to contact you. Their managers tend to know what fits for their label more than you would.

Also I don't think most major artists using basic wave forms are trying to be like chiptune or steal from it. They are just like... ooooh square wave sounds nice : ]

Basic wave forms are dope. I'd rather here a commercial song utilizing a square wave then like some god awful detuned mega trance saw.

This show made me smile from ear to ear.
